About Me

I've enjoyed the arts for most of my life, be it drawing, painting, music, theater or photography. The problem I ran into quickly with working in any of the artistic professions is that the financial returns aren't always there in the beginning and may or may not ever pan out. So I chose the corporate machine and work full-time in a much more steady career that I know will always be there to pay the bills.

But my passion for the arts remains with me and I've expressed that through photography as a  semi-professional hobby for the past 15 years. I've worked hard to develop my skills and in addition to the formal training that I have gone through, I'm always working to learn more and perfect my craft. I'm always experimenting with new ways of doing things and learning new skills.

Over the years I've tried out most types of photography. The most recent being cosplay photography. We have so many amazing local cosplayers here in Utah, it's been crazy fun to get involved with their creation process and be able to create some fun imagery to help showcase their work.

I've also spent time shooting product photos for online retail sites of products ranging from rechargeable batteries all the way to princess dress up costumes for kids. I really enjoy the creative challenge of photographing products in a great light. Many of the products that I took photos of moved up in Amazon's product rankings because they quickly became popular.

But my first forray into commercial photography probably began in Stock Photography. An exclusive iStockphoto.com photographer, I will still shoot the occasional stock shoot because I find them an enjoyable throwback to commercial work and a chance to hone those skills, plus earn some extra income.

Of course I've shot engagement photos, family photos, weddings, newborn photos, missionary photos and senior pictures as well. Event photography is has it's place and I've done my fair share. Some of the funnest event photography that I've done is theatrical event photography. Taking clear photos in a dark theater presents it's own set of challenges that I've enjoyed working through.

Finally, I spent a year doing Journalism/Editorial photography for a newspaper. I loved being on the sidelines of a football game or basketball game trying to time the best shot without being out of focus and able to tell a cool story. I've also photographed gymnastics, dance, baseball, volleyball, track and field and more. That was a crazy fun year!

So here we are on Model Mayhem (where I've been largely inactive for a number of years, mostly recruiting models for stock photo shoots until now). Now I'm interested in honing my artistic creations and all things that crop up here.

I've tried to include photos from most of the genre's that I've shot, but it's hard to get them all into the portfolio here. One of these days I'll get the website developed and show y'all some more, but until then... this is what I've got. Enjoy looking through what I have and definitely reach out if you're interested in collaborating!
