I am looking to get acquainted with some new models for some upcoming concepts planned for the springtime 2017. I put out call for a "Practice Muse" because I need a few models I can call on when I need to do light testing, or experimentation, or if I just want to practice my photography. (I got some new gear over the holidays and I want to test-drive it!)
The added benefit for us both is that I get to meet a new model and you get some good model coaching, practice and experience in front of the camera. I've got some epic plans for 2017 and I'm not likely to try and execute these plans with models I have not worked with before. Too risky. I learned that the hard way in 2016.
What I've also learned in 2016 is that most models want to go straight to "concept" without any pre-production, coaching, experience, or knowledge, and most feel like they can pull it off. To me, that is a recipe for mediocre work. There are some really talented models out there that can pull off almost any shoot, but they are few and far between in my experience. I've done enough mediocre photography, I'm ready to do some phenomenal photography! I am looking for models, both male and female who are willing to work with me.
TF or PAID?
Many of my photography friends wear it as a badge that they've "never paid a model..." I don't even own that badge, let alone wear it! (smile) I am not at all opposed to paying a model for his/her time under the right circumstances. I will pay for a "good" model to do an official shoot with me or for one of my commercial clients. I've also been known to pay a model for experimental shoots.
I believe in compensating people for their time, just like I believe in being compensated for my time. You will either be paid, or you will get photos as compensation. I'm not likely compensate with both. The exception is when I am doing client work. If the client releases the images from a campaign I will almost always share them with the client. (check my blog for more on this subject. I've got a lot to say.)
When it comes to TF work, I am always open to that too! The idea of TF shoots is that it benefits everyone involved in it. I will always bring my A-Game to a TF shoot! I regularly work with a MUA who is PHENOMIAL and I know she will bring her A-Game! She always does! If you are a model, and you want to do a TF shoot, you gotta have SOMETHING in your portfolio that shows that you even HAVE an A-Game. If you do... Bring it! (smile)
