Derrick L.’ Hughes was born on
June 11, 1985, the oldest of two children.  Derrick attended Charles Herbert Flowers High School and Graduated in 2004.  At the age of 19 he started making and designing garments and soon discovered that he had been given a gift from God.  After discovering such talent he began creating garments for proms, weddings, and fashion shows all in one year.

Derrick has never taken any fashion design courses, he is a self-made star in the making.  In 2004 he received a Consumer Science Award for most creative person in Charles H. Flowers and also in 2004 Derrick was awarded with most unique dressed male of the 2004 class.

Since graduating high school in 2004 Derrick has become the designer for high school fashion battles where local high schools would compete.  After two years of winning competions as a designer he took a break from designing.  In 2008 he decided to return to his passion of fashion design and won 1st place at Duke Ellington's 2008 fashion battle.

Now believing in his talent he decided to take part in DMV modeling companies.  From 2008 -2011 Derrick L’. Hughes made his mark for most requested designer in the DMV to show his Collections and for designing custom garments for  numerous companies.  He has also worked with many colleges such as Bowie State, VSU Delaware State, UDC, Allegany, P.G. College, Howard, CoPPin  State,  Cheney College all in 2010. 

Today Hughes takes his life to the next level  produced 16 collections, 5 of which are Haute Couture. Although very much inspired by great designers of today fashion, he has done much to separate myself and establish a signature look of his own. Derrick is a DMV native who after enrolling in Kings Borough College, is now a Brooklyn NY resident.

He has had the honor of working with celebrities such as Lil’ Kim the Queen Bee, Joslyn Hernandez from Love and hip hop, Bianca Golden from ANTM, Shangela from Rupal drag Race, Katrell Mendenhall from Chicagolicious, Deelishis From Flavor of love, Maia Campbell from In the House, Tae Heckard, Keyshia Kaoir, Lil Mo, Trina Braxton, and Keyshia Cole. He has also worked with companies such as Models Inc., Models Envied MINI M.E., Emaje Models, Extraordinary Ent, and even had his swimwear line featured on the front cover of Swerv magazine. His designs have been featured in a number of boutiques in Chicago, Indianapolis and online. The DLH Collection was also showcased in Sophisticated Black Hair Styles Magazine and Chicago’s Fashion Week.
