About Me

Hi everyone. I'm Carter Perez-Art. Photographer, fashion designer, artist, painter, digital artist, and super huge fan of tattoos & piercings. Hablo Español, I speak English, Je parle un peu de Français, e un po d'Italiano.

I received my Associate In Arts for Photography and my Associate In Science for Fashion Design in 2014. I love to paint, draw, take photographs, sew, and even some baking, but my true love is fashion photography. I love to photograph landscapes, animals, people, and nature, but I love the endless possibilities and fantasy of fashion photography the most.

Some awards & exhibitions include Honorable Mention in the year 2015 for the Weston Scholarship. I was selected as one of the students to show a piece in the MPC Student All Media Exhibit in 2016 at the Monterey Peninsula College Gallery. Also in 2016, I had a silver gelatin print displayed at the Marjorie Evans Gallery in Carmel as part of the "Recognizing The Alumni" show. I've won 1st & 3rd place for one of my watercolor pieces my sophomore year at the Visual And Performing Arts show at my high school.

I would say that my love for drawing started when I was in 2nd grade, and my love for photography started when I was in 5th grade. In high school, I found a connection with fashion and the whole world of modeling, clothing, and photography, but I never thought about it as a career. When I graduated from high school, I went with my natural instincts, and studied fashion design & photography. I fell in love with fashion right away and its history, and thought of photography as a hobby. I then took digital photography, and fell in love, and now I know for sure that this is what I want to pursue.

Some influences for me as a photographer are Irving Penn, Andy Hartmark, Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Matthew Rolston, Tracy Bayne, Steven Meisel, Ansel Adams, Tiffany Ireland, Amanda Wilson, Gayla Partridge(666 Photography), and many more.

I always love getting inspired by models, and some of my favorites are Coco Rocha, Lisa Cant, Dovima, Lisa Fonssagrives, Lily Donaldson, Chanel Iman, Iman, Sasha Pivovarova, Natalia Vodianova, Naima Mora, Cecilia Perez, Liu Wen, Qin Shu Pei, Du Juan, Lea Vendetta, Megan Massacre, Richard Rocco, Dawid Auguscik, Rico Genest (Zombie Boy), Mateus Verdelho, Damien Ray DeCent, and the list goes on.

I love fashion designers, and some include Sue Wong, Alexander McQueen, Cristobal Balenciaga, Carolina Herrera, Oscar De La Renta, Roberto Cavalli, Qi Gang, Jared Gold, Mondo Guerra, Anthony-Ryan Auld, Seth Aaron Henderson, Gabrielle Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Elie Saab, Yohji Yamamoto, H. Naoto, Marchessa, and many more.

I love to photograph pretty much most categories, but when it comes to fashion photography, I am most attracted to high fashion photography, dramatic modeling, classic black & white, Avant-Garde, Surreal, Tattoos & Piercings, Juxtapositions, Fantasy, Gothic, Witch Chic, Extreme make-up, and things that are different from the norm.

As a photographer, I require all models to sign a contract, and a parent/guardian to sign a contract if the models are under 18. Compensation for modeling will depend on the project, and is discussed before the photo session is done. I always have my portfolio with me, and references are available upon request. The contract will be signed the day of the photo session or before, and anyone is allowed to accompany the model at my photo sessions if the model is more comfortable with a friend/parent/guardian. I will not do photographs for models under 18 unless there is a parent/guardian on site and both the model and guardian sign the contract. I will not photograph nudes (including implied) with models who are under 21, even with parent/guardian permission, no excuses. If the models are to do a nude/implied nude, they must sign a different contract for that as well.

Respect for me is an essential part of working in a professional environment and in life, so I respect my models, Hair/MUA's, assistants, etc., and I expect the same respect back, so any inappropriate behavior will not be accepted during a photo session. I do love to joke around, and love a sense of humor, but no disrespect will be accepted at a photo session, and may result in loss of part/all of compensation, and/or even a loss of a photo session. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, bullying, or disrespect will be tolerated at my photo sessions. Also, if for any reason a photo session must be cancelled, I would appreciate it if I am to be notified as soon as possible. I am for the most part understanding when it comes to cancellations. We all have our own lives, family, emergencies, and some even have kids and/or pets. I will appreciate a cancellation/rescheduling a million times over an absence without notification.

I am open to questions, suggestions, tips, and if you happen to be interested in choosing me as a photographer, please feel free to message or tag me here on Model Mayhem or on my Facebook page, Carter Perez Art. Thank you so much, and I hope to either work with you as a photographer, photo assistant, fashion designer, wardrobe stylist, or artist. Thank you for viewing my portfolio. :)
