I do, on some occasions, accept TFP work, for some of my own creative projects, or work that will further my art and my business.

Here's the catch:
I'll consider TFP if you have something outstanding to add to my own portfolio; Whether it’s an incredible or unique look. Crazy good skills and talent in front of the lens. A great theme idea you've always wanted to do, Or some new unused or unique location to shoot. You MUST have something to bring to the table... Tell me what that something is, and sell me on why we should do a TFP shoot...

For those unclear: TFP means  “trade for print” or “time for print” depending on who you ask. TFCD/DVD means “trade (or time) for CD or DVD” The key word being TRADE, or TIME… both work.

I'm finding a increasing number of people that don’t understand the time and work involved for the photographer, after the shoot. For your 2 to 3 hrs in front of the camera, we're just getting started. A photographer, (one that produces quality work), will spend another 10, 15, 20 hrs or more on the computer, processing, editing and creating the final images. The image you looked at on the little screen is never the final product... Let's not forget the effort put into the planning some shoots before hand. Some larger shoots involve finding and securing locations, getting stylists, designers, Hair/make-up, models, lighting setup…

So, What do you have that you consider fair trade for 15+ hours of a photographers time, talent, and art? What are you bringing to the photo shoot?

If you're just looking for a free shoot, I'm sure you can find a ton of “Guys With Cameras” out there that just like to take pictures of pretty girls.

Ok, so to be fair, this also applies to Models being approached for TFP from photographers. Do your research ladies!!! Google them... Look at the quality of a their photos. Are they bringing a fair trade to the table as well? Is their style of work how you want portrayed on your portfolio, and theirs...? Protect yourself, and do this biz SMART! Remember, you get what you pay for. And you get what you put into it.

Note: If we do set up a TFP, keep in mind, Shoots for my paying clients will always take priority: scheduling, and editing. As well as the models, designers and team we use to create that shoot… TFP’s can get postponed, rescheduled, themes or locations changed, Or canceled all together…
