... or just mineral makeup in general.  I haven't bought any, but I always see it (especially on QVC) and was wondering what the MUA's on here think about using it.  They always advertise that it's good for sensitive skin (which I have) and that it provides good coverage, even for people who don't like to wear foundation.  I like foundation, but my skin always gets oily after a while with it on.  Would mineral makeup be a better alternative?

If you have sensitive skin, or skin problems at all... the BEST thing to do is purchase the appropriate skin care products for your skin and use them morning and night.  Mineral makeup is fine...actually all makeup has minerals... it's when you add liquids and cremes that change the products texture.   I wouldn't use mineral makeup for a shoot...as it's not for the camera.  It's for every day use, not pro use.

EDIT:  Oh, and hire a makeup artist for your shoots.  wink

I completely agree with Lisa on this one girls!! Minerals are not meant for camera ready looks.....it often looks very chalky on "film" and unfinished......it does not provide that flawless look that we attempt to achieve for photo shoots.

BUT for daily ready to wear go to work make up i think there is nothing wrong with it!!!]

I have had good luck with it on men when working on features. Since most men don't need full coverage, it blends well with the natural look of the skin. As long as you powder it to matte it out, it can be used. Otherwise it is too shiny under the set lights.

Oh, I've been trying so hard, but I've only found 2 (that's right, 2) in my area and they're... err... slow responders.

Don't use it for photoshoots. But for Film/TV or everyday wear they're fine.

I worked on a movie with a girl with sensitive skin and we used her bare escentuals on her for the whole movie and it was great. i just used a little concealer where I needed it and it was fine.

Try Philosophy's "supernatural" foundation if you get a chance. Although it's really meant for people with semi-good skin already.

Glominerals is better and does not even compare, you have to buy it at medi-spa and its not all that more expensive. I use in for my photoshoots..take a look in my portfolio.

I personally like Bare Minerals.  I would never use it in my kit, but I like it for me.  I sound like the freakin' informercial, but it does soft-focus the imperfections.  Although I still use concealer for trouble spots.  And you truly need to use the mineral veil setting powder for taking down the shine.

The only issue I've ever had with it is that when I first started using it, it was summer and when I'd get hot or sweat, it would make my face itch.  But it stopped after a while, I guess I built up a tolerance for it.

Last weekend, I was doing make-up for a girl who is being featured on MTV's "My Super Sweet 16" show and she wanted me to use her MAC foundation.  She had their new mineral products...the liquid foundation and the powder.  I have to say that I was skeptical, but seriously surprised at the way it made her skin look!  I haven't even looked twice at a liquid foundation in years!  (And I know, MAC has issues.  That's why I had to use her make-up and NOT mine from Face Stockholm!)

Mineral makeup is a disaster for photos (it whites out when a flash/strobe hits it).  It's fine for Film and Video, but you have to use very high quality mineral makeup with very refined Mica.  If the Mica is not milled fine enough the makeup can look like it has sparkles in it.
IMHO, when a product makes it to QVC (or HSN, etc.), the quality usually suffers because of the mass marketing to that huge consumer base.
For my occasional mineral makeup usage, I stick to Jane Iredale, one of the best mineral makeup companies.  A friend who works at a plastic surgeon's office turned me on to it 5 years ago.  It's expensive, but they have a Pro Discount program and allow us makeup artists to buy testers instead of the retail packaged items.

yeah bare minerals are great looking in person,  but camera lighting and color recognition doesnt like them at all!!!!  a really good shoot i had was ruined with that.

however theatrical suppliers make similar stuff which is basically concentrated highly pigmented versions that work literal magic in front of the camera,  i use them all the time and even have made several kinds of my own i got so addicted smile

Here is what happens;

https://bilder.strifeldt.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/mineral_ingenting_kremfoudation.jpg
The mineral powder on left. In middle is nothing used. And in the right is "cream to powder foundtion" without use of powder after.

And look what happens if you strech the skin with the same makeup as above:
https://bilder.strifeldt.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/mineral_foundation_uten.jpg
The left is mineralpowder (i don't remember the brand). In the middle is "Cream to powder" foundation, and I must strech the skin lot!!! to try and see if I could get the same bad results as the with the powder based foundtion to left. But the results was very fine. big_smile
To the right is the skin with nothing on it.

Which products I use here? It is Cream to powder foundation from Sonya Cosmetics, and i wrote a little more about it here;
https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thre … st12840020
But you can't buy it in any store...
Only sales exclusive from distributors.
So, if you want to try it, I can help.

The idea is to look at these old threads for reference - to find what information you are looking for without having to post a new thread. NOT to reply to every single one and fill the whole front forum page with ancient topics!

They say they don't wan't new posts, and I don't  ask question, I give answer.

To counteract the unwanted increase of the multiple threads regarding the same subject, it is advantageous to keep going on to the old ones, so not new creates.
So I just made it appear as desired, and prevented new threads started on the same theme.

New answer on theme new makeup artist will ask for, you can't blame me for that.
I give more answer not new question on allready open thread.

Read again on the link and the black words from the link who told me to do so.

looks terrible in print and looks  oily on  TV....  scrub that stuff off before you have your makeup done because in my opinion nothing looks worse in print...

I absolutely adore it. I use it for me, not for my talent. No one has a clue I am wearing it, it lasts all day, the coverage is terrific for shaving cuts, redness. I think more men shouild use it. I get great comments on it, it knocks about 10 years off my perceived age. Love it to death.

For print, well you know, its little tiny stones and the camera can see that. But I might still try it on male talent sometime.
