does this stuff provide good coverage for under eye circles and sun damage?  What about pore coverage? Im a little skeptical about it, because of the infomercials.

actually, they sell them at Sephora and Ulta.  I use them.  So does my mother in law, aunt-in law, mother in law's best friend, and a couple of my model friends.

they're great.  definitely breathable makeup.  oh and let me add, since I started using them I never get shiny.  Before, even with anti-shine/matte makeup I had to blott my nose sometimes.  I only have the starter-kit of face color & "warmth" (sort of like a bronzer) and mineral veil and I rarely get under eye circles or have sun damage, but I do feel that it creates the "airbrushed look" they advertise about.

If you are curious, go to Sephora or Ulta and try the samples!

Dragon, I shot with it once.  under cloudy outdoor light, it turned out okay, but as the natural spf15 comes from titanium dioxide, I'm not sure how badly it will reflect under harsh light.  But, perhaps testing with a model (send her to Sephora to try the products prior to shooting) might be interesting!  I'm curious to know how this product handles lights too.

For mineral based makeup, here's another brand to consider.

if you buy it at sephora....and try it.....and don't like it you are able to return it i think!!!  (well, that's what they said at the sephora out here, and i have returned other stufff)
i like the bare minerals so far, have been using it for about a week.....it's supposed to be so "pure" you can sleep in it and not break out......yes, it is true!!!  smile

hehe...let me know what you all think! big_smile

I just got the starter kit and so far I love it!! I feel like I'm not wearing any make up at all. It gives you the look of not wearing any makeup at all but in a good way (if that makes any sense).  Anybody else use their products?

I've used it, and I love the way it feels, but the coverage isn't good enough for a breakout.
If you have even skin to begin with, it's awesome!  Covers undereye circles  really well.

I have it. I love it. I've done a few outdoor shoots with it and one indoors. I didn't notice any glare. I can get it to cover my breakouts if i use the concealer brush but it takes a bit of extra effort. sometimes i just use a little cream concealer on the more noticeable spots. my skin is definitly way better since i started using it. it has good staying power too. i would definitly recommend going to some place like sephora and asking to try it. i have worked with a makeup artist that used a different brand of mineral makeup but it was cream based... i ended up looking all shiny for a fashion show... not fun.

i'm curious if there are any makeup artists out there who have tried it extensively in shoots and shows...

just so you know it contains bismuth oxcide which can cause allergic reactions to some people (including myself).  the bismuth oxcide is what they use for the spf, it can cause itching and sometimes a rash, if you have allergy prone skin, be forwarned.  as a MUA ive tried many different types of foundations, i was not pleased with this and do to the titanium dioxide it does not photograph well.  some people like it and like the effects and coverage, some dont, but if you try it and start to itch, wash it off and apply benadryl, cuz it can get nasty!

If you go to my profile and see the green wall pictures. That is bare esscentuals foundation. Including the blush (I'm not sure what they call it.) I don't like to use the blush in person because it looks silly but the photos I took--it was cool looking.

I use bare minerals.  I've been tempted to try drugstore mineral make up but I don't know how it compares.  It covers things great on me.  If I have a pimple, I use bare minerals, then put on concealer, then brush bare minerals lightly over it to even things out.  I used to do that when I used liquid foundation too.  I don't see the point in putting on concealer and then rubbing it off with foundation.  If you put it on after, and then lightly brush or blot foundation over it, it covers better.

Anyway, most of my pictures, save one or two, I'm wearing it.  I always use a shade slightly darker than my skin, so I don't look white under the lights.  Plus, by body is a lot darker than my face and I have to even myself out.

I don't get shiny with it.  The thing I don't like however is it settles into pores.  After a few hours, every line and pore is visible, so up close, my skin doesn't look the greatest, but from a few feet away, it's great.

I love it. It's all I use. For photoshoots, I put on liquid foundation for better coverage and then cover with the BM products to give a natural look.

Cinema Secrets is MUCH better for photoshoots!

BM is great for everything else. You can use BM for aspects of photoshoots, but not by itself.

I love the stuff. I have really sensitive skin and this works great for me. It blends do well with your skin that it doesn't even look like you're wearing base. The brushes are pretty nice too. I haven't used it for a photoshoot though because I wasn't sure how it would look under the lights but I may try it in the future.

We were having issues with Bry's skin, so we tried the Bare Minerals line.. she is allergic to red dye.. so we have to be very careful. She loves the Bare Minerals, but they use red dyes in their products.

However.. we found a better line of Mineral Products..  Jane Iredale - the entire line (save the glosses) use natural ingredients, and none of the dyes she is allergic to.

Give it a look at www.janeiredale.com  - I'm betting you'll love it.

Btw.. this image of Bry.. https://www.modelmayhem.com/pic.php?pid=1717937 strictly this product line.

I have used it in the past, I LOVED it! It blended perfectly and my skin was so healthy, I could even sleep in it without feeling guilty, it is a great powder makeup. Then only thing I didnt like was the price :-/ . I found some similar alternatives for cheaper (Dream matte Mousse foundation), but I do highly reccomend it.

I actually use a drugstore brand of mineral make-up. It's by Physcian's Formula. I love it for everyday, and I've used the translucent light shade to set my make-up for shoots. It doesn't contain the Bismuth, if I remember right from reading the ingrediants list. I won't use it by itself for shoots though.  I've tried both the liquid and powder, and like the powder better. Liquids, as usual, are not that forgiving to slight variations in skin tone/color. Just my experience.

I use Bare Minerals when I'm not doing photoshoots (I don't like how it looks under studio lighting).  If you've been using regular makeup and then switch to BM, it will settle into your pores.  I went to an esthetician and found out all kinds of interesting things about makeup, including the fact that most liquid foundations has crude oil in it.  The only way to get that crap 100% off of your face is to rub it off with alcohol, which will irritate the hell out of your skin.

I really thought she was just trying to sell me a bunch of expensive makeup.  I had a glycolic peel done and also had a bunch of blackheads extracted.  If you try to use those peel thingies to get them out, it leaves half of the blackhead in there, and when I got them extracted, my pores were HUGE.  I had to let them close up before I put any makeup on, and then I gave BM a try.

Just a warning-if you're switching from a regular makeup to BM, your skin might purge while getting used to it.  It definitely will if you get a good peel done and then start using it.  You'll be broken out for a while, but it's really worth it as your skin stays nice afterwards if you're kind to it.

I used it for awhile...my feeling is "Meh."

The coverage isn't great, and it can get cakey.  It definitely doesn't look good in photographs.

I recommend Dior's foundations/powders. Beautiful blending and finishing.

They use bismoth oxychloride, which can irritate certain people. I haven't used this in a photo shoot due to being fearful about the titanium dioxide/ zinc oxide SPF (variest a bit based on color). I work for Sephora.com though, at it is our best selling foundation. I personally found that I still got shiny around 3pm when applying in the morning, and color wasn't rich in tone enough for my needs. Though it does look very natural and is not pore clogging.

O.k. I usethe powder OVER Smashbox photofinish and a thin sweep of Studio Gear matte foundation... the Smashbox gives evenness the Studio Gear is light thin and covers flaws & the i.d. gives warmth and a more organic appearance ...

At Sephora ( and muas I know ).... they will tell you for daily wear it is great but for theatre and film you will need more to provide evenness and tone .. I have it,i use it , i tried it alone ,  but for any public appearances or film , it really iis not enough for me ...
I had a bare minerals specailist do my face at sephora and it was light coverage at best... for me...

and for dark circles forget it.... nope nope nope....

If you are young and have flawless perfect even skin , this may work. If not seek on...
10 to 1 says the commercial models are airbrushed ... I mean really...But i do suggest tapping the brush like they say...

Buy Proceed instead .... or ColdHeat...

I use Jane Iredale myself for the last 2 years and LOVE it. I have combination skin and break out when that time of the month comes along sad. It's very light , but the coverage is amazing. It's not cheap ($50), but it does last me a 2-3 months of daily usage.
You can get it @ spas/salons or indpendent stores like elephant Pharmacy in Berkely. Look up the website for a location near you smile!
