Susan V. contacted me about Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics after reading a comment I made about the stuff.

I thought I should share the info with all of you because I truly love using the product.  It's produced fantastic results for me in all media formats and they give a great Pro Discount.
It's been a lifesaver when I need to do "on the fly" foundation or concealing work right out of my set bag.

It's the best all purpose powder foundation I've found in the last 10 years (Shu Uemura coming in a close second with MUFE coming in a very tight third).
It's also the most versital mineral product I've used (trust me, this "Makeup Whore" has tried every brand).  I use it to highlight, contour, "bronze", etc.

What makes this mineral foundation different is the mica they use.  It's micro (jet) milled and then given a "low luster" treatment.  Most mica in other mineral foundation is like little mirrors, which is why they tend to strobe or flare very easily and white-out in photos.  The "low-luste" proccess makes the mica particles look like a frosted glass as opposed to a shiny mirror.

Application Note:
Because it's a mineral product you still have to be careful about blending too vigorously. If you rub the powder to much the mica particals will eventually polish up like a mirror and look shiney.
If this happens, I just make sure to set it with little matte loose powder.

Skip the gimmicky "Liquid Minerals" fluid with the floating beads and stick to the pressed powder foundation.
If you love it, then check out the loose mineral pigments (which gives CRAZY coverage). I've even mixed the loose minerals into other foundations to give them a coverage boost and a more "skin-like" look.

The mineral foundation is also great for sensative skin, antibacterial/antimicrobal (perfect for post surgery and acne skins) and are naturally water resistant.

You can set up a Pro Account directly with the company and they allow you to buy the testers ($18 for the pressed foundation in plastic as opposed to $50 for the retail gold metal compact).

I've used it on almost every one of my personal projects and they've added it to the permanent makeup supply at "Law & Order" since I started working there.

Tell her Kevin sent you...NO DON'T!
(she'll might lose the love for me after getting a few dozen calls on a Monday morning because I gave this info out) smile

P.S.
I used ONLY Iredale powder foundation on Rhonda for this shoot due to a rash from an allergic reaction she was recovering from.  It covered beautifully and photographed in both studio and daylight without any strobing or "color change" issues.

I think they are the very first Company who launched the Mineral make-up, before the boom of Bare Mineral/bare essentual now L"oreal have their own Bare Natural Ha ha ha going cheap and more Affordable.

But all of those minerals i tried, Kevin is right Iredale still the best.

Since Mica and titanium dioxide create greyish effect i always add Reddish.oranges pigment from other products to neutralize the muddy due of the said ingredients.

I also tried Jane Iredale cream foundation and i love it.
Thanks for the info Kevin about the discount.

Ok, I have been ENTIRELY skeptical about using mineral products for a shoot.  And I do keep coming across folks who go ga-ga over the stuff.  But I just used the Iredale line recently, and my only concern was the color range.  I am a big 'ol sucker for anything with a warm, yellow tone to it in general (used when appropriate of course), so I think it was the overall "pinkness" of this line that didn't sit right with me.  I was doing exclusive African American women and I had some serious issues with the foundation in the pump w/beads.  The eyeshadows were really pretty good, the powder leaned pink in every shade, and the concealer wasn't usuable on anyone darker than Halle...Thank God, I had some of my old Ben Nye stuff stashed away to deepen the concealers.

BUT!  Before Kevin comes after me, I did tell the person running the event my concerns.  She was relatively new to the product, but since she'd come across it, she's been in love.  She did also point out that she wasn't sure what color range  would work for her venue best, so she'd just ordered the "sampler."  I was the first artist for her to use this line.  In her sampler pallet, the range rode the fence, but leaned "fair."  So I just told her that next time, for her customers, to go darker.  So, Kevin, I'll have to get my hands on some of the powder and shadows in wider ranges to try them out some more.

But everybody luvs a head's up on a discount!!!

I totally agree.  I've freelanced doing product developement for Iredale.  Jane refuses to lighten up the Titanium level in the mineral product which automatically makes it much "pinker/grayer" once you get to the deeper skintones.  She also doesn't take advice on tonal levels in the "global" range very well.
I'm completely ga-ga over how it looks in photos on the 'right' skintone.  If we could just get her to listen to reason on the shade selection...well, you know.

HATE the stuff for professional use.  I don't want "skincare" in my pro makeup.  You just invite allergic reactions and irritation that way.  Keep the gimmicks and give me makeup that works in professional media formats and JUST LOOKS GOOD.

I ONLY use Jane Iredale Minerals Pure Pressed foundations -  don't go with the loose as they are way too shiny! Stick with pressed and apply with a sponge not the recommended brush.  The loose minerals tends to make you work the minerals too much then it brings shine - like polishing a mirror.  From my experience (going on 7 years now with using JI) Go pressed all the way! They are BY far the BEST on the market.
