You answered your own question.  Doesn't matter if there's a reason for it or not.  If you don't want to do it, then don't.  It's that simple.
I think most photographers would rather have their models being comfortable with what they're shooting, than uncomfortable.  Just so the images aren't ruined.
But also, having read this thread. And as someone who creates those, as you put it "incredibly distasteful, much more vulgar" images.  I'm so mentally turned off and offended by that, that even if I could photograph you, I wouldn't.   Just because I'd have that going thru my mind.  So you see no worries.  You don't, and those of us who do, won't be asking you too.

Well, as a last resort I guess photographers could always have a roll of ductape around. I would imagine that would just scare it away, or the guy would be afraid of ever getting it up again. wink

In ancient Greece those with large penises were made fun of. Imagine being mr. 9" walking around the ancient locker rooms of sparta and having everyone point and laugh saying "Wow look at his big, doofy, stupid looking penis."

It's interesting how beauty is always evolving ain't it.

(k spelling error time) but back in the elizabeathin error if im not mistaken they found gaped teeth attractive as well as large hips (though if the hips come with a but that still stands true today)

I agree and I think it adds to a photo.  If your package isn't big enough to even show an imprint and you beef it up a little or a lot to show your manhood, what's the big deal?  It's natural...it's human.
Now if it's standing at attention and tugging the underwear/bikini outward, then you might have a point.

HUH?

Erect penises are gross and vulgar?

Why?

Salvador Dali, one of history's most notable artists made a living off of (erect) phallic imagery.

A penis, erect or flaccid - has a place in all forms of art.

That just sounds nasty.

I don't have anything against an erect penis, I just don't want to have my picture taken in that abject state.  The point of this thread is to ask if it's often obligitory for fitness/underwear models to...*ahem*..."beef up".

In a word.  Never.
