and I mean it! There've been so many of them and the same territory is covered over and over. As someone who works (appropriately) with minor models, I'm sick and tired of seeing the same sh*t over and over again. So here's my summary of what has transpired in the past and will probably transpire again if people don't just read this instead...

1. There's nothing wrong with working with young models. Just keep it appropriate and keep a parent around.

2. Appropriate varies from place to place. In continental Europe, "mild" nudity is considered OK. In most of the English-speaking world, it isn't. Lingerie is generally appropriate only in areas where nudity is too. Swimwear is slightly more accepted, but you should be careful. You should also be sure that your poses are more "fun and natural" than sexy and hot.

3. Don't argue about what's appropriate. It means different things to different people and arguing about it just overloads the server and helps cause 503s...

4. Don't be afraid to get to know the underage models you work with and their parents: it'll give a nice window into the issues and culture of that age group.

Hrm nor have I, the only MM model I have in my portfolio is a 17 year old Male Model.

Though I think I followed most of what was covered in the original op, its a matter of keeping it age appropriate, having parents present, and just being professional.

Guess you could sorta call em that, except doesn't really concentrate on photographing the family unit, but usually just singles out to either the girl or boy as you'd notice in the portfolio of his. (edit: hrm, he used to have a lil boy in his portfolio... come on man, variety is good)

that's why you should become a bondage photographer. model's don't argue when they are suspended from the ceiling by a rope tied around their nipple.

That still doesn't get their Birthday suit off.... though if the suspension by nipple allows the skin to give way, then maybe that'll do the trick.

Thanks for the reminder. I should add a fourth rule:

4. Never do bondage work with underage models. Ever. No matter what.

Well you know it tastes like chicken right *does a Hannibal lector impression*

Speaking of bondage, my avatar, should it be a no-no if I have a lil girl's hand shown under the chain, with the chain going across the wrist, or would that be considered sexually implicative of bondage.

You have to be the only person alive who actually WANTS to do events photography. Most of us just do it to pay the bills for the fun stuff.

But he does have a point and it's his choice. Just like saying I gota be the only person that really wants to bother printing traditionally on old ass paper ( though we know thats not true due to all the film/digital debates, and I know plenty that like shooting events and such, but at times it certainly does feel like "work" ).

Good luck on your world domination thread thingy. smile

Oh, forgot to mention: Having a parent present is a good idea. Having a signed model release is also a good idea.

But...

Just because a parent gives permission does not RELEASE YOU FROM FOLLOWING THE LAW. Neither a parent nor a legal guardian can override state and country laws. If you intend to shoot a minor, keep it age-appropriate according to the law in your area - regardless of what the model or parent/guardian may want.
