Nothing is true until you see it on the Nikon site.

If you are asking whether Nikon will come out with a newer/better model sometime, then the answer is yes.

Will it be called the D3X? Maybe.

ya looks like nikon mated with a double quarter pounder.

I'm sure it will come out about the time canon revamps the 1ds, thereby making nikon 2-3 behind the curve once again.

The latest rumor says  there will be an 'announcement' on July 25th....the 90th anniversary of Nikon. No specs yet, but widely believed to be FF or 1.1x crop and 18+ MP.

So um... Nikon dry-humped an Argus C3? and maybe had a little foreplay with an old Nikon F4

personally I don't see why nikon doesn't make all d200 or future equiv based on the f100 body and all d3 and future bodies based on the F5 body. Doesn't get much better in terms of ergos than those two.

ok karl... just in case nikon reads our crap.

Nikon: if you stuff the d3x into an f5 (assuming 1.1x and 16+mp), I'll buy 2 and toss a 200-400VR in with them.

and they announce on my b-day... the whole omen thing.

you heard it here.

The rumor was so sure that www.Nikonians.org had a D3 forum started last March.

They are not usually wrong.

So maybe there was a production problems.

My source says VR in the body and a new crop mode for DX lens and a full frame mode for non-DX lens.

but he says September.

That fake has also been around for at least a year.  Before the D2Xs if memory serves.

this thread borders on hilarious given the recent "my sensor is bigger than yours" thread.  i just hope they do a better job reducing high iso noise levels in the next gen digi.

for non digi freaks, and there IS a film F6 ya know

those pictures are bs by the way.

Nikon USA is a client of mine (if you can believe that). When I first heard the rumors way early this year, I sat with the head of all sales (international), looked him straight in the eyes and said....I want a D3x. The guy just smiled. Looked around at the other execs, looked back at me and said "what d3x".

The messed up part is that they have a program designed for their vendors and partners, where you can buy gear from them - but you can only buy ONE thing a year. You cant even buy a camera AND a lens. One or the other. wacky, but Im saving my one purchase for this camera if it comes out this year.

I am torn though....i cried when i spent 5k for the d2x. At this rate, I might just start looking at digital backs for my 645sfd. Torn i say!

In no way shape or form will it be better than the mark 3 nikon is soo far behind in the digital game it is sad really. The only way it will leap ahead is to buy out fuji's sensor and put it in the D2Xs or newer body then and only then will it be a contender again. And fat chance that will happen Nikon is way too lazy to do that. Thus people will get tired of waiting for nikon to get off thier ass and do something great like the old days................ SIGH

On the other hand, since Nikon sells more D2X's than Canon sells 1DS MKII's and Nikon sells more D200's than Canon sells 5d's, I can understand how they are just cowering in their boots!

I don't buy it. The hotshoe design alone would severely limit accessories to use with it.

Hmm sells more than the mark 111 gee wiz  i would think that is because canon dose not have the mark 111 out in full force ( canons fault ) like the D2Xs and at 5000 to 4000 hmm wich is better 10 fps or 4 and better color. Like i said put a fuji chip in a nikon D2Xs and they will corner the market but no and that is why nikon is too far behind in the game. And as for the D200 you cannot compare it to the 5D in any way shape or form. The 5D owns the D200 in any field period.
Now the D2Xs against the 5D well now that is a better fight so please 1700 for a nikon D200 and 2700 for a 5D gee of course nikon sells more units be real when comparing the two units please
i have owned both got rid of the D200 and kept the 5D for obvious reasons D2Xs is way too over priced for what it dose not offer and has too many problems with it's sensor and this is first hand that i have seen. I am in Hawaii and i have seen around ten units go back with sensor problems
for Oahu that is bad. But it is a matter of choice if you shoot landscapes Nikon is for you People well fuji wins hands down in this department but buffer is way to slow for most situations. So for me canon was and will be the choice for me untill nikon gets off thier butts and dose something worth switching back to.........

You need to work on your reading skills, he said Mk II as in 2, not III as in 3.

...

Its all a matter of market strategy to fill in the price gaps that canon has. So for cheaper than a rebel, the D40X currently, for in between a rebel and say 30D, got the D80, for in between the 30D and 5D, they got the D200 and so forth. The idea is of course if someone doesn't want to pay for a canon they may settle for the Nikon offering in the in-between price bracket. Also I would not say that Nikon is so far behind, but rather attacking at a different market with a slightly different approach with their consumers. Most of the sales are obviously consumers and not working professionals.

Nikon has a pretty strong market share, and got plenty of followers, while I don't care much for the gimpage of their hardware at times ( ie: removing AF motor from d40X, or not allowing a manual/mechanical lens to fire or meter on the lower models under the D200 etc) , most of the preference and objections I have are my own, and people like myself who might go out and buy a old Nikon AI lens to save a buck and not mind manual focus are of the minority when it comes to the buying consumers, so its simply that they are not targeting someone like myself as a buyer unless I want to spend over two grands. (I do like how on my digital rebel I can put nearly anything in front of the camera, meter [stop down] thru it and shoot thru it, but my rebel [300d] is dying for the second time since I've owned it 4 years ago)

Also I usually take a shitload of salt when reading comments from someone who is obviously brand bias and treats their own personal opinion as if they apply to everyone (good example, the D2X isn't overpriced, it just not utilize what you would want it for). I'm somewhat Canon bias, but at least I acknowledge this and not turn it into a diarrhea festival with my options stated as fact and bashing out the other brands with mostly misinformation.

Oh my.  You are truely a Canon lover only.  There are so many things that Canon need to fix but obviously you don't see it.
