I recieved the below message from MM# 503065 today...

So you are the infamous Katherine Rose, I have heard a lot about you... most of it good but not all of it unfortunately. We were contacted more than once to take a look at you and in fact someone has contacted you more than once about quality work. In each instance you have done nothing nor put forth any type of effort... even as little as a simple response. From what I have gathered about you it would imply that you are "ambitious, determined to succeed, professional" among another things. I am going to tell you that you can have it all if you honestly wanted it; you could have this industry in the palm of your hands... you may think you want it but you really don't. I do understand that in this day and age it is difficult to really trust anything but if you are going to live your life by those standards then you will experience nothing. This will be the final attempt by Top Ten Talent and Model Management together with IMG to contact you. If you do not make an effort in this instance then we wish you luck doing whatever else you can come up with on your own accord. There are several things that you would be great for with your look and body type, it is all a matter of making certain that you are right for them. We have the Victoria Secret promotion that is being put on by KARIN Model Management in the spring of next year; that will be in London England and pays 135,000 for 1 and 1/2 months of work but you will need to be comfortable with some nudity since your body will be painted. There is also the fall fashion show coming up in Milan that is being being put on by MC2 for several clothing designers which will have a payout of 12,500 for the 3 week commitment... and as of right now there is also a print add that Trump Model Management is looking for models for, that is for Roxy and is coming up early next year with a 8,400 payout.Toptentalentandmodelmanagement.com is our website, Top Ten Talent and Model Management is a representation firm... we were formerly known as Ten Model Management before we were purchased by IMG. We are not an agency but we get you work with agencies without you having to sign an exclusive contract and be bound to any particular agency. We will submit you for any assignments that we feel you are right for... basically it is almost like a lease as opposed to outright. We are a talent representation firm and we can kick start your career in ways you never imagined... we represent hundreds of the top agencies in the world.

Sincerely,
Jessica Sanders Head of Scouting and Developement

Ok, so they first contacted me on myspace and sent me a msg and I messaged them back questioning their profile (no comments, hardly any friends, etc.) and they said it was because they dont use the site much.  I was still very sketchy so I wrote them back asking for references....that was on August 21st, I think, and they didn't respond.  And now today, I received this message.  Anyone know anything about this company, etc.?  This has to be fake, right?  And I see that they created their MM profile after they messaged me on myspace.  I need lots of honest feedback!  Thanks!

Scam. Total scam. I'm sure others will post details, but its scam. Real agencies and real gigs don't work this way.

If you received the message from another MM member, you should contact a moderator https://modelmayhem.com/contactamod.php

"Sluggos" (fake talent agents) or even real talent agents aren't allowed on MM.
They will be banned after they've been reported.

The amount of fake agents and managers on the internet is overwhelming.  Be suspicious of any e-mail from such that you receive.

It looks like they stole the website at imgmodels.com and put it on their domain to make it look like they were IMG.

they emailed me on myspace and i totally called the girl out and she just stopped replying like i said well whats your email she told me to emailt he same girl you were and the one i was talking to was "Carrie" and she said you HAVE to submit a video. lol

eh i called her out and hmm they disappeared from my friends list... oh well

oh and watch out on criagslist for at least in the midwest these people saying you can work for adidias and other brands like that but you have to pay 300. that you supposedly get back oh and they only use yahoo addresses. so i told her it was a scam because those labels use agencies for models. and she went off on my how i dont know what im talking about and how im missing the chance of a life time. i laughed and put her in my block list... so watch out for them too

Before anyone taints the name of IMG any further, let me clarify that Top Ten has registered a domain and simply redirected all their traffic to IMG which is one of the Top 10 agencies in NY. IMG has nothing to do with this scam. The process of doing this is a simple entry to forward the url to IMG. I have sent an email to IMG to bring their attention to this matter.

That really doesn't mean anything.  It just says that this domain is registered with domainsbyproxy which is nothing more than a shield org to prevent the actual owner from showing in WHOIS database.

It is perfectly legitimate to register this way.  That doesn't imply that the actual person owning the url is a fraud or is not a fraud.

Any time you see domainsbyproxy come up on whois, the only useful info you can gleam from it is the registration date. All the other info is to the company hired to register the domain.

I know. smile  I've been in that business a minute or two.

Godaddy and others also will hide the registrant information.

Their website was created from www.modelwire.com Anyone can sign up and become an agency and have a site in minutes! even photographers... Modelwire is a sort of directory site.

Sign up and become an instant agency! (yeah right!)

I think Modelwire.com is promoting people to SCAM! If the agency in the OP was for real, they would have created their own website and not used a place like modelwire to create their web image to the public.

Sacm - scam - scam!!!

Hello Katherine, as a fellow model I agree that something does seem a little strange about that particular email.  I am not sure that I would respond to it either and I am glad you posted here to get some feedback instead of just jumping into it head first.

I am the head of marketing for ModelWire and can agree that the link provided does redirect to the ModelWire template page for that agency.  The reason that it is formatted that way is because ModelWire is currently a tool for Agents & Clients (Photographers, Advertising Agencies, Casting Directors) to connect and communicate.  It is not nessesarily meant to allure talent or others to the agency.  That page can be assimilated to an electronic book, a way for Industry Professionals to obtain a model's portfolio at any time, anywhere in the world.
Again, our agencies are very legit on ModelWire and are very careful to choose only the most elite agencies to work with.  It is not a service that agencies 'just sign up for' as previously implied.

Some models do indeed accidentally sign up for a Client account thinking it is for models, but in fact it is for the above mentioned.  That can lead to some confusion and it did for me before working for ModelWire.  We are currently keeping track of the Clients who sign up with the goal that we will categorize our Clients in the months to come.  (Ex: Photographer) What that also means is any models who are signing up for the system as Clients are now being flagged and will be taken off the system at that time.   If anyone else has any questions about ModelWire please do not hesitate to contact me!  smile

SCAM SCAM SCAM

The old pressure tactic. Like when they call up old ladies and tell them they've won a prize,  they need to pay $100 to release it but it can only be done NOW.
