Actually, now I am thinking I am going to bail on this interview. The reviews I have gotten so far from others that have had some experience with Orange have not been the greatest. Plus, this very through explination of the law....I always forget Canada is another country, because it is so close, and there are laws regarding working in Canada. You are correct. I am so glad you all have saved me gas money and other headaches, thank you!

I've shot a number of models for Stylus.
These are among the top agencies in toronto: Orange is included on this list, but, I digress.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for better luck with them but you know us 'shorties' do not have many options to choose from as top agencies demand 5'7"+ ...
(and just for the record, I did happen to chat with another model who said she got a few jobs from them but decided not to resign - which should mean AT LEAST 'legitimate'...)
orange, sucks, its not quite illegal, but they do not deliver on thier promises, all the models i know of who went to them did not get the comp cards they pain 750$ for. I was lucky, i signed a contract with them, but i realized early it was no good and i got a full refund.

if they ask you to pay more than $10 a month or ask you to buy expansive photoshoot, they are fake, also is the contract they offer you is non-exclusive, then they are definately fake. just think about it, what will happen if 2 anency send you to a same job.
I had an interview with them today, signed, but told them I had to talk to my husband before paying the money.
They said they would pay for my test shoot, 8 enlargements, and port to start. I would have to pay for my comp cards and headshots.
I was with a so called reputable agency when I was younger and HATED them.....I know they have a good rep, but all they did was take $1000 for a course, $500 to do their model showcase in front of 'international agents' $100 for comp cards (Which were just cheap 8/11 photocopies with a sticker on the bottom) and I never got any work. They didnt send me to appropriate castings, just general ones to make it look like they did something in return. I left after a few months.
I didnt notice anything bad about Orange when I was at the meeting. She had me pose a little to see how I took direction. Looks at some snapshots. Stuff like that.
She was realistic about the kind of modelling I would be able to do because of my height and measurements, and seemed optimistic.
So I guess my question is....
Do models usually pay for their one comp cards (which I believe is the case with other agencies as well, I just want to check)?
If an agency is interested in you, do they sign you on the spot? (which she wanted to)
Anyone heard of photographer Edward Ambros? (he is the one they want me to test shoot with)

Since when are non-exculsive contracts fake? There are rules regarding the ethics of non-exculsive contracts and what happens when two agencies send you on the same casting. And expensive photoshoots do not mean their a scam either, I had two tests that I paid for, both done photographers reccomended to me by my agency, one cost $500(with hair, make up, and styling) and the other $600(same deal), but the pictures were great and it was totally worth it. That being said, Ive heard some seedy things about Orange
While most of the information is geared towards talent agencies, much of the information applies to model agencies as well, especially because most agencies claim to do both. While ACTRA doesn't promote or endorse any particular agency, they do have a listing of agents that comply with a standardized conduct code.
ACTRA also displays a list of "NO CHEQUES" agencies, which is a politically correct way of saying they won't do any business with those agencies (most likely because of misrepresentation or fraud). Orange Model Management is in that list.

*ugh*
This is frustrating.
Ive found both good and bad things about them (more bad) and its kind of disappointing.
Does anyone know any models with Orange who have experience with them?
Kind of a 'straight from the horses mouth' kind of thing?
I'm not a model but I can tell you from an MUA's (and former actor so I do know a bit about the other side, agencies, ACTRA etc.) knowledge Orange is not really thought to be a "real" modelling agency in Toronto. By that I mean when I'm doing shoots (magazines, commercial, tests etc.) I have NEVER once had a photographer say "the girl is from Orange".
If a photographer did say that and we were just doing a creative I would want to see a pic of the girl immediately b/c I would be highly critical as to whether or not she would be of any use to my portfolio and I'd be really curious as to why the photographer was pulling girls from there when there are so many more reputable agencies in the city.
Run away from Orange and don't look back! I've shot some girls who used to be with them and they never got a single paying gig or even the photos from their first "test"
I'm currently with Orange, and I didn't pay any outlandish fee for a shoot due to the fact I told them straight up I'd get someone else to do it. I've recieved two sets of comp. cards, one from the shoot I did initially, and the second complimentary with photo's from Loreal Fashion Week. I have yet to see a paying gig, however I was in Loreal Fashion week with them, and was the female model in Toronto designer Zoran Dobric`s look book. I`m debating whether or not to resign with them after my year contract is up, but I do get ample auditions, however nothing for anything hugely reputable.
My advice, if you just want to have some fun, see where modelling could take you go with them. If you`re really serious, aim for some other agency.
Katherine Ellen wrote: They e-mailed me as well...informed me that they would foot the bill for my comp cards and headshots as long as I paid a $225 "administration fee".
Is it standard to pay administrative fees? I know Sutherland's Model Work division asks for a $140 yearly admin fee.
aww boo..

My step sister, paid them, shot a crappy test with them
and has never gotten any work, or any calls from them/
ever.
It's pretty much a scam agency.
How does that make them a scam, maybe she's just not their type of model. Did she sign a contract? Everyone with no pictures does a test to get started and they pay for it out of their pocket. Unless you're beautiful, 15 and already 5' 10".
