This is my new homemade ringflash, works with an external sigma flash and it's attached on the camera. I really want to know your technical opinion about this picture, I never used a ringflash before, so HOW CAN I KNOW IF MY RINGFLASH REALLY WORKS GREAT??? Thanks you for your time.

Like It.... Colors are soft and the catch light is accurate for a Home Made Ring flash.... MannyD

In my opinion, the catchlights don't look at all natural. A little creepy to my eye.

But it looks like you did a nice job with the construction! smile

they way you will be able to tell is if you pull back and shoot on wall.  If there dark shadow that outlines the body and is even the whole way around, then you got it.  Looks pretty good to me but try pulling back.

What is with the interweb obsession amongst DIY'ers to make ringlights?
Go to strobist and its all DIY ringlights.

Yours, like most DIY jobs, seems to be fine at really close range. Do you have any shots at farther distances?

Not yet, but, I really want to know which one is the better distance between the camera and the subject because I don't have any reference about it.

The baby's a bit blown out, and obviously doesn't trust you; other than that, job well done. Making mine soon!

Ah, and here's Andrew Thomas... new name, same old bullshit habit of coming into DIY threads simply to take a crap and leave.

If you have nothing interesting or constructive to say, why bother posting?

We really can't tell you that, since you made it. You need to test it out at various distances at find the 'sweet spot' through trial and error. I'd try it at 1' increments from 2-10'.

You can do whatever you like...I'm just pointing out you seem to always find crapping in the DIY threads a cheap and easy ego boost.

Don't like DIY stuff? Why bother posting? When someone starts a thread to share info with others ( look up.. many appreciative posts from others, thankful for the info) why shit on it, honestly?

You've done it so often, I'm really curious why...

Here's an example of the trademark ringflash look, thanks to a quick google image search for the word "ringflash" -

Just a reminder that there's a No BS rule and a No Drama rule in the Photo forum. "Please think before you post and only hit the submit button if you have a well thought out contribution.  Junk posts/threads do not belong here."

Could you explain your statement a little further, because I'm a little confused by it. I'm wondering if you meant his catchlights don't look those you would get from the sun, especially if the sun were a ring flash. Or perhaps you meant that his catchlights didn't remind you of the time you were spelunking and a shaft of light from a Profoto ring flash shined through a hole in the wall of the cave and everyone thought it was sun light but it was really a Profoto ring flash that an Indian or cave man had forgotten several thousand years ago (which as we all know is sufficient enough time to be considered natural), and your Ipod tripped the Bearskin Wizard. Or perhaps you meant that you don't like artificial light at all, or quite possibly you disdain ring flashes above all other artificial light sources. How about a little help here!
