i'm editing my original post,

i'm looking for lighting companies that offer remote control of power output for mono lights.

i'm also not interested in hearing about the quality of the different lights, i know the arguments......

i'm looking to turn the power up and down, not to trigger my lights, i have pocket wizards for that

Cables are simple enough that many third-party suppliers sell them, and can even be home vrewed in many cases.

Paramount Cords makes them to order, but as of this morning, their web site was down.

i'm confused, what i'm looking for are lighting companies that come with the cables....i think alien bees or white lightenings do?

i don't want to rig or do a second party purchase

i believe AB use a telephone cord?

Oops, no, I was the one who was confused. Sorry about that.  big_smile

The Paul Buff companies (AB and White Lightning) are supposed to have excellent customer service. If you call them and ask, they should be able to help you out.

Cheers

Speedotron Force monolights can be controlled by a wired Palm device.
Photogenic's digital monolights can be remote controlled with their wired or IR wireless remote.
Alien Bee and White Lightning can be remote controlled with their LG4X wired remote.
Some Elinchrom units can be remote controlled with their wireless Skyport.
Broncolor makes IR and radio remotes; I know their wireless RFS can be used with some of their monolights.

Hensel has a wireless trigger/power adjuster, in 1/10th stops.

Do you have RX series monolights ?? They can be fully remote controlled by the skyport trigger system.
A computer interface lets you set power levels.
youtube demo of the system

Sounds like you'd be better off with radio controlled speedlights.  I use my Canon 580 series II that way - excellent results - and no cables.

this looks very interesting, i looked at the video.....

from reading the info it sounds like it only works with elinchrom......but watching the video it seems like they offer a kit that will work with any lights?

am i missing something....

i already own profoto and novatron monolights and would like to use them in the studio and outside....i also own 3 vagabond units

anyone using this system?

White lightening /Alien bees will be introducing their new wireless controller in either may or this summer i believe.  This is to replace the previous model they took off the market.

The Skyports can wirelessly trigger other lights like your Profotos and Novatrons, but they'll only control output on Elinchroms.

Wireless output control is proprietary.

Like the old version, this one has line-powered receivers that make the system useless for Strobists.

Pocket Wizards are the "Gold standard", but are quite costly.

Even when using wireless systems, there are still short cables required to connect the trigger to the lights.

Photogenic has a remote control for monolights.  I believe Hensel does too.

I don't know if those Hensels will run off a lower current inverter/battery setup like the Vagabond. Good place to check is the compatibility chart for the Tronix Explorer (the 1200 uses a 150W inverter, same output as the original Vagabond) -
