""TAKE IT OFF!!!""

I just recently went on my first nude audition.  It was such a rush taking it all off in front of all those folks.  I felt so high leaving the audition.  Amazingly, I felt comfortable.  There should be a male version of ANTM because when I found out that I had to audition nude, I could imagine the look on my face.  The cameras would had an excellent shot of amazement on my face.

This audition was for a well known school (School of Visual Arts).  I was proud of myself.  I had great variations with the poses they were asking us to do.

Just want to know who else had the experience of auditioning in the nude...

Please share your experience...

A great number of the folks around here, it seems, are "nude adverse" and not only the models.

lol...

very interesting...

I'm not saying I'm fascinated by nudes but would like one in my book...

I don't see nothing wrong with a nude drawing or implied nude photo done of me...

I believe I've been Blessed! with a decent body...

With all the talk of nude photo shoots and the other, I imagined that folks would have to had some experience in that arena...

I gone through a few folks books on this site and I see nudes...

So what's the big deal?

Folks take life to seriously...

Just spill it!

Tell us all bout taking it off...

I have talked to a couple of art schools around here about posing and they didn't even care to see a picture of mine, nor did they care about measurements or anything. They were just happy to get someone in there to pose, lol. Maybe it's different out in your area? Or maybe I just talked to some schools that aren't the norm...

They were looking for individuals with nice artist posing composition...  It really didn't depend on being a model per say...  I think they were excited that models were there and had posing experience...  They emphasized being able to work with students that are new to photography and drawing, judging personalities of the models...

I guess the only experience I ever had that's even remotely similar would be my first shower in Boot Camp, with 83 other guys. lol

Man, that has to feel funny. I've shot nude work when I was in photography school, but only with friends, we never did it like in a classroom, and I couldn't stop thinking what my face would look like if I was posing instead of shooting. I've also been asked to pose for artists but I get all red even before they finish the first sentence smile

That made me think about in basic, getting the penicillin shot. A) I'm terrified of needles. B) I'm scared witless and already bleeding from one arm from a shot (walk down the vaccine gauntlet) and this guy looks at me, says  "Drop your pants" then grabs my buttcheek and jams a needle into it.

Yeah, I nearly passed out.

isn't that weird?

God, I hate hate hate needles.

Yes, I know. I have ink and piercings. BUT IT AIN'T THE SAME.

And also, I get really awkward and uncomfortable when I have to take my clothes off in any way, shape or form in front of a doctor. Or be naked.

Depends on the doctors. Gyno, oh hell yes, because I know what comes after. Military doctors? Sometimes, they always wanted to stick a needle in me.

You should've seen me when I got my navel pierced. Cried hysterically and bled a lot. I've got myself up again to where I think I'm ready to get my first tattoo.

NAIM-

Since we photographers are seldom called to audition in the nude, I can't relate there.  However, it reminds me of a similar experience I had a couple of years ago.  My wife and I were at a resort that had a "prude" side and a nude side.  We decided what the hell, we only live once and decided to go check out the nude.  Initially the thought of it was kind of scary, but once we got there it seemed like the most natural thing in the world.  We ended up spending the entire week on that side!

As an artists model, I have only been asked to do a nude audition twice in 40 years. It's not a very common thing, although I have heard of it several times over the years. I can understand the reasons why it may sometimes be necessary.

The first time was while I was doing a lot of modeling for art while in college back in the late 60's-early 70's. A small group of local artists wanted to hire a male and a female model to work privately with them for a series of monthly sessions. They were seeking models who would complement each other's appearance and be able to work comfortably together. They called several models to attend an audition, I recall there were 3 males, and 5 females. We had to do a variety of poses, individually and together with another model. They photographed us, and later voted on which models to use. Luckily I was one of them, and it turned out to be a good assignment.

The second time was only about 6 years ago, a college student was making a film. Her concept was to create an everyday life documentary, showing various members of a "family" doing normal activities in the nude. Her mother called several people to audition individually, because they didn't have any older family members willing to participate. That one was really a unique project for me, since I had previously modeled only for drawing, painting, and photography. You could tell she didn't have much experience in directing or film making because she was uncertain what to have the people do for an audition. Her mother was present the whole time during my audition, and again all day during the filming of the project. I saw part of the result, hope she got a good grade because I wasn't impressed with it. She didn't even know about model releases, I had to inform her that she should get everyone involved to sign a release for her so she could submit the film.

That's hot!

One thing we all should learn in life is that you can't take life too serious...

When will you enjoy it if you do?

I want to enjoy life...

I'm really happy you enjoyed yourself and it sounded like fun...

I've been on a nude beach but didn't get nude...

LMAO...

I now may actually ""TAKE IT OFF!!!""  next time I go to the nude beach...

You never know..

A dude like me may do that on a regular beach...

Well I worked for a nudist print publication for years, and have shot in the nude. It was usually a condition of entry to those places where I was shooting. Really no great problem.

I would think a model would be the most comfortable nude in a visual art class, especially a school as big as SVA. I've had two figure modeling classes back in college, and we get all sorts of models from old to young, fit to not-fit. They try to vary it up, but I really don't see them being picky, they'll pay anyone to model nude as long as you can hold the pose for 20 minutes. Not to mention when you're in a class of 20 artists, they basically just end up staring at you like a still life object, rather than one guy staring at you with a camera imagining things about you. In fact I have also fallen asleep during that class because still-life for me are pretty damn boring.

It was also sweet how one floor mate of mine decided to model nude for the class just so I could draw her.

U telling me I got to hold a pose for 20 minutes?  Then I gotta start workin on poses I can hold dat long...

(rethinking strategy)

DAM!

I would imagine like say 10 the max 15 minutes...

They lucky they paying pretty decent money...

lmao..

I don't think I'm going to bore somebody to sleep...

I be working on poses all the time..

It's completely normal!  Ignore those other photographers who keep insisting you need a release and escort for stuff like that- they're just trying to scare you!

I used to pose as an artist's model, a couple times for a local museum that was holding an art class after being scouted in a grocery store parking lot and a few times that I booked myself afterward.  I didn't have to audition nude for the museum gig, but I did have to go to the teacher's studio and show her that I had an idea of what kind of poses would be needed for the class. The gig paid $30 for a hour and was in an unheated basement in the dead of winter. It was hard to hold the poses without shivering too much and at the end I was more tired than after a good 4-6 hour bondage shoot because at least with bondage you can relax against the ropes instead of having this isometric thing going on. I was sore for days and the teacher turned out to be a complete psycho, calling my house freaking out at me for not immediately picking up the phone when she rang and then begging me to come in at the very last minute for a class after I told her I wasn't interested anymore.

How do you define "pretty decent money" for live nude art modeling? I wouldn't do it again, at least not for $30 an hour!

Ok.  If they keep insisting I be nude at the shoots, how do I avoid pinching my "bits" in the tripod???

Get a bits guard- it keeps them out of danger.

Or just lube up well- you'll slip right off anything that tries to pinch you.

I am a regular life and figure model for drawing classes at the London College of Fashion and other colleges and private drawing classes in London. In some cases, this has been 09:00 to 16:00 on the same day for a few months at a time. In other cases, it is a one-off assignment.

Many tutors like the model to hold particular poses, consulting fine art texts as they describe what they want, others are happy for the model to come up with a series of short poses (5 - 10 minutes) followed by a longer pose (40 minutes +). For some classes, I have held the same pose, with breaks in between over a number of lessons.

Life modeling, like many other things that seem simple, can actually be a skilled activity. The Register of Artists' Models always auditions before admitting models and works to keep high professional standards and improve working conditions.

I really enjoy life modeling for artists and for classes. I find that it is good to alternate this kind of modeling experience with photographic modeling.

Man, this is the FIRST time I heard of art schools holding auditions for art models. I got into figurative modeling by just asking my own life drawing teacher if I could pose nude for her other classes.

Not sure on the need to pose nude for the auditions, but I do not doubt it true for most of the posing is nude.
I am aware that SVA, the School of Visual Arts in NY city does hold auditions to model for their classes.

The auditions are held before the semester starts.

Given that information,
Let's keep this thread from becoming all jokes.

Keep that to SF2 in off topic.
