Craig Seay has kindly asked me to take over the reins of the 2nd LIST, which of course I am happy to do.
First and foremost I would like to thank Craig for all the hard work that he has put into both creating and building up this excellent resource.
The 2nd LIST provides aspiring MM photographers with two important resources.
Firstly, a list of skilled and veteran photographers who are willing to mentor, instruct, or advise other photographers who are wanting such help. And secondly, by viewing the portfolios of the Mentors, anyone can view photographs of a 'standard', covering a wide range of subjects and tastes and styles.
To find a Mentor
1. Check the below list to see if there is a Mentor in your area
2. If there is, send a message to the Mentor telling them what help you are after. The Mentor will get back to you, telling you if they are able to help, and if so, how to proceed.
3. If there is not a Mentor local to you, put a request on this thread (which should include your location) and check back regularly as the Mentors list is regularly updated.
Portfolio Assessment
If you would like you portfolio assessed by a Mentors please add your request to this thread. The assessment will be in two parts:
Part 1 will be an overview of your portfolio as it currently stands, and
Part 2 will be advice on ways to improve.
The assessment will be sent to you via personal message.
If you get an assessment and find it useful, please add a comment on this thread, in appreciation of the help given.
[b]MY SUGGESTION TO ALL THOSE SEEKING HELP - BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE - VIEW THE PORTFOLIOS OF THE MENTORS TO SEE WHOSE STYLE / STRENGTHS / SKILLS MOST CLOSELY MATCH YOUR REQUIREMENTS.
Any members willing to offer their assistance would be most welcome. Please note that we will carry out the simple vetting procedure of inspecting the volunteers portfolio to ensure that their work is of a 'standard'. The volunteer will then be informed that they have been accepted, and then their details will be added to the appropiate part of the list as soon as practicable.
What does it take to be a Mentor?
It takes someone with….
1. …..an in depth knowledge of their industry
2. …..the willingness to share their knowledge with others
3. …..patience, and an understanding of what it is like to be a newbie
If you have been assisted by a Mentor, it would be good to show your appreciation by adding a message to this thread. It will also show that the system is worthwhile!
WHEN POSTING EITHER A REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE, OR AN OFFER TO BECOME A MENTOR, PLEASE STATE YOUR INTENTIONS CLEARLY!

[b]THE MENTOR HOTLINE The following photographers are available to accept phone calls from other photographers that need some help! Don't be afraid to call!
*These lists are updated as frequently as possible, but usually not immediately.
Suggestions are helpful and appreciated.
If in addition, if you want to be on the 2nd List "HOTLINE",a list of photographers willing to be available by phone to photographers in the field, please include your phone number when signing in.
THANKS!

If you think I could be of assistance, feel free to add me for Austin, TX. I learned more from one shoot with MY first photography mentor than anywhere else, so I'd love to pass the favor along...

Hi Sam
Thanks for your offer to Mentor. Your details have now been added to the list.
Your experience with a mentor is very similar to my own, and I feel exactly the same about passing the skills along.
I am not clear how Toronto , Canada photographer Ward qualifies to be a mentor for Vancouver , photographers as there is over 2000 miles distance between our cities ...but who knows maybe he flies here every weekend or something

Hi Garry
Re locations, it is not for me to decide where photographers are based. These details are taken from their profiles.
This is a great idea. I am very thankful to a couple of pros who took the time to mentor and assist me when I was starting up. If you need someone in Indiana, I would be glad to volunteer.

Hi Fred
Thank you for volunteering. Your details have been duly added.
Since there is no option for an Email notification to this thread, is there a way to keep track of it without having to go back and search for it.
I'd like to keep an eye on it.
I know it will be a very valuable tool.
Thanks,
B.
This is awesome! I would like to get some help from 1-2 of the photographers on the list. Do I just shoot them messages or will you need to hook us up first?

Just give 'em a holler.... Whoa, I think Tennessee is gettin' to me.
I was fortunate when I started model photography to encounter and work with so many people who so freely gave of their time and information to help me.
Frankly, it is karma that I give back the gift so generously given to me.

Good idea - I have had the same problem.
Therefore I have created a simple image link which, if you want, you can copy and paste into your profile. Then any time you want to check the thread out, you just go to your own profile and click on the link.
The image link would look like this.
If you want the full bb code to add to your profile, just send me a message request for it.
