Why so many MM male models imitate female model poses?  I often see these feminine poses in male models on here but never on the billboard or mag.  The female poses looks sexy and inviting, but often they do not translate well into male counterpart.  In fact, it looks ridiculous in male model.  For example, pulling down their brief in an angle looks awful to me.  It gives me a chill up my spine.

Is this is the way of the future, or just the newbies have not idea how to pose in general, lol   wink

I agree with you here. Women should be curvy, men should be angular. It works for the body types better that way.

1) Maybe it's all they know. The challenge for me is that I don't look at male models; only female models.

2) The fashion industry in general tries to feminize men. Always has.

I don't agree either

Yeah I don't agree with the OP premise either. Really when you think about it, there's no such thing as feminine or masculine poses but rather poses done by men or women.

Ultimately it depends on the model, photographer and environment that tells whether or not a particular pose is pulled off successfully in an image.

We have fundamentally different needs.  The pose does nothing to me.  I guess I am an ordinary man who views another man differently than you.  You treat a man like a sex object, and I don't big_smile    I stick with shooting the females forever and ever.  wink

Then i shot this one, but this one maybe isnt very manly lol

I think its his facial expression...

These two are pretty manly but could work for a girl too...

But in the end it really is about what you consider manly.  The guy who is wet in the shower, the girls that saw that picture thought he was really hot and manly, when i look at the picture, it looks feminine to me but i dont mind that.

I've been shooting the men's divisions for a number of agencies and editorials and I think it all really depends on what you're trying to convey within an image and of course your whole thoughts on masculinity too. Really it's a very gray area and totally subjective.

This made me laugh because back in the spring, I did a lot of shoots with a male model. It got to one shoot where we were modeling swimwear that I realized he was imitating quite a few of my poses.

Of course, I called him out on it, so he stopped doing it. lol

But in this case, I think it was because I was getting more positive feedback from the photographer, so he wanted to try it.

I like your shots, they are manly looking to me except may the shower scene. A few years ago I took a workshop, they talked about the poses between male and female in portrait sittings.  I was told that never have your male client do a forward lean pose.  Female tends to do better in forward lean pose but backward lean is OK too.

Yeah the shower guy pic is a bit fem i totally agree, also the way his head is leaning on his shoulder, thats what i was trying to show him by posting those up.  How one simple thing a model does can turn the picture from one thing to another.  The other pics are manly, that one isnt.

This is probably part of the problem then - you only see women as sexy because you are a straight man. This is fine, but a pose that looks feminine to you, probably looks really sexy to other women. With the exception of that weird Brad Pitt picture above (LOL) I haven't seen any truly feminine poses in this thread.

One wonders why they don't rock with their cock out?

We photograph women nude. Why not men? I'm straight so I don't want to see a man's photo at all, clothed or not.

For whatever reason men are being photographed, one assumes the viewer wants the entire gentleman depicted, just as the women are depicted.

Just a thought, it seemed a unique thread.

Talk about ROCK, the whole 70's and 80's rock scene is about men wearing long hair, women's pants, or even make-up.  And most of them are straight men.

Different strokes for different folks.  I personally don't like skinny men with long hair.  But I respect artistic expressions from all.  There is room for everybody when it comes to art.  No need to stereotype people and tell them how they should look, act, or pose in order to meet mainstream expectations.

http://i.rollingstone.com/assets/rs/1/1257/images/23046_lg.jpg

In ancient Greece, men were on center stage.  Men only in fact, for even women roles on stage were played by men.  The naked male form was appreciated and celebrated for thousands of years.

Showing off the female body started much later, and is in fact illegal in certain cultures to this day.  So enjoy your artistic expressions, may it be with male or female models.

Do you never see any image of a man as artistic, does every image have to have sexual connotations for you?

Women shop. Women buy for themselves, other women, men, kids, old people and babies. Most women would look at that picture and go buy piles and piles of RL underwear to gift or to make their men wear or in Jen's case to rub all over themselves while thinking naughty thoughts.

Your opinion counts for a total of zilch, nada, nothing, crap, doodoo, poop, squat, the stuff in between matter in space, the junk between your toes, underwear streaks, running out of analogies without a Thesaurus.....

get the point? consumer demand, if your opinion disagrees with it then no one cares.

Yah, but I noticed a lot of your publications are in magazines for gay audiences.  Now I know it's the stereotype that the average gay man is far more into fashion than the straight counterpart.  But would your portfolio make one wonder if your models' poses are more feminine than masculine?

Okay...my take on this thread is about male models mimicking female-model poses and expressions. Personally, I think this has a LOT to do with strength of personality in said-model (male). In MY humble opinion, I've learnt that the feelings and emotions conveyed in the shots are based on what the model brings to the shot. Let me show you exactly what I mean...

Glamour-shoots:
http://modelmayhm-6.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/100502/08/4bdd9cd41f91d_m.jpghttp://modelmayhm-6.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/100831/13/4c7d683b3fb4e_m.jpg

Fashion-shoots:
http://modelmayhm-6.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/100921/17/4c994879485a6_m.jpghttp://modelmayhm-6.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/100804/19/4c5a23044bd38_m.jpg

The first in both are obviously not meant to convey sensuality in any way, regardless of the nature of the shoots. The second in each conversely is intended to evoke arousal, and it has been reported to me by many of both gender that they have succeeded in doing just that. Whether the male model looks masculine or more effeminate/softer in the shots is really all a matter of the mood that he and the photographer were aiming for when taking the shot. Unless of course the male model is weak and lacks versatility. Male models DO have difficulty varying their expressions! There are MANY that we cannot do, as they simply look 'wrong' hmm
