Why so many MM male models imitate female model poses?  I often see these feminine poses in male models on here but never on the billboard or mag.  The female poses looks sexy and inviting, but often they do not translate well into male counterpart.  In fact, it looks ridiculous in male model.  For example, pulling down their brief in an angle looks awful to me.  It gives me a chill up my spine.

Is this is the way of the future, or just the newbies have not idea how to pose in general, lol   wink

I rarely see guys imitating women's poses, to be honest.  Are you just being overly sensitive to the minority or are you really seeing a lot of this?

I've only shot one. I don't think it came out too bad.

2) The fashion industry in general tries to feminize men. Always has.

You don't really have a clue as to what you're talking about.  None at all.

In general the fashion industry does not try to feminize men.  Mainly because in an effort to target male buyers, they want to convey an image of strength and masculinity because that's imagery that men identify with.  That's what gets them to buy clothing.  That's what resonates with the target markets.  You can isolate some designers who toy with androgyny but it's not the fashion industry in general.  Nor was it ever historically the case.

Like, you really don't know what you're talking about at all…

((Geez… this isn't the oldest thread I've ever seen by a long shot by why dig this one up?))

Not one single male model in your port of 74 images.

What would you know about how a male should pose?

I pose to fit the shoot. If I'm shooting catalog, I'll try to stick to more masculine stock catalog poses and it's awkward because that's not my area of expertise. I'm just really not very butch.

But if I'm just shooting for portfolios, I don't. My look veers drunkenly in the fuzzy gray area between masculine and feminine and my poses do the same. I go into a shoot assuming that whoever booked me has seen my portfolio and is aware of this.

(Obviously there have been those who've tried to coax me to "POSE LIKE A MAN, DAMMIT". It ended hilariously.)

I think Bob Worthy https://www.modelmayhem.com/28901 captures male models
in wonderful settings and poses with a great sense of composition!!!

Bob does, and his work is amazing.

I'm just an amateur who is experimenting with modeling.  I've had a few shoots with other photographers and have mostly self-portraits in my port at the moment. I have more shoots scheduled over the coming months.  Just saying I don't have a lot of experience with this.

As a photographer, I'm looking forward to shooting more males to learn more about shooting them and have a couple coming up. It will be a challenge to shoot them because of physical structure differences and because of in-the-box thinking I might face when shooting males.

I have some images in my port which on another site a female model referred to the poses as "feminine."  I could see what she meant although they were not emulating female poses.

There is a range of possibilities with males from strong and angular, to action, to the romantic and sensual.

Here are some links to some of my images if anyone would like to comment, provide constructive feedback or otherwise.
