Please post phone numbers to hotlines, links to websites, and any resources you can find to help support people from being hurt by or dying from suicide or violence. Please also provide specific support groups, such as single parents, gay and lesbian, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, etc. I will consolidate them into the OP as a resource. Also feel free to provide supporting messages.

Sorry, not to rain on a pretty good idea, but shouldn't this really be in Off-Topic?

How is this industry related?

Here's a good one though that encompasses them all. www.google.com. It's really quite diverse.

Suicidal depression is the most debilitating experience I've ever had.

This page is being bookmarked, in case it ever happens again.

Thank you.

Thank you for starting this thread!

Three points I wish to make are;

(1)  You are NOT alone!  You can choose to reach out for help, and there are others who can relate to you if you give them a chance.

(2) Things can change, and often do so quickly!  Tomorrow can be a better day if you give it a chance.

(3)  Suicide is final, there is no coming back!  People do make mistakes, and don't realize that if they are making a mistake from committing suicide, there will be no correcting of it.  You are not thinking of them perhaps, but there will be survivors who will miss you.

I took training in suicide prevention training and answered a crisis hotline after one of my friends took her life.  These three points are what I try to communicate to the person I'm speaking with when they call for help.

Here's the deal guys.  I only know the pain and suffering from depression.  For several years suicide was an unwanted "friend" who stayed close by my side.  We've had some tough battles and a few that I almost lost.

I'm not a medical professional.  I'm not a trained specialist.  I am on medication, working with a psychologist and therapist and doing a good job of winning the battle.

All I know is how to relate and be a friend to you.  Call on me if you feel the need.

Thanks for posting the info. I have helped a model in the past who was thinking of suicide. I wish I had these resources then.

MOD NOTE:
This is a serious thread, it is in off topic because it is off the topic of modeling and photography, this is not a signal that hijacks and unnecessarily inflammatory posts will be tolerated.

Thank you.

Laughter is very important for our physical and mental health.

I try to find something to laugh about every day.  It keeps depression away.

So go to a comedy club, search Youtube, or rent a funny movie ... but DO IT!
If those things don't work, then call me!
I will listen to you, then I will say a few things to inspire you.
If I'm really good ... then I will get you laughing!

Some of our greatest comedians lived with personal pain, yet they told jokes.

Think about it.

Just wondering, what happens to be people who have been either raped or abused and don't go to talk to someone about it? Or get help for that matter?

It all depends on the person.

These are issues that artists and models suffer from at a disproportionately higher rate than the rest of society. Thank you for posting this, Sharon.

Struggled with anxiety and depression since I was 10. I'm in cognitive therapy now for the first time at 19. I've also helped a lot of friends who were dealing with similar issues- abuse, eating disorders. If you ever need anything, feel free to contact me.

http://halfofus.com - also linked on my profile. It's a good resource, especially for young people.

Thanks for this thread. It's a good idea.

I've been dealing with clinical depression since I was a kid. Some days are better than others, it's cyclical. Funny thing is, the days I sometimes feel my worst are the days I'm at my most creative. Some days when the meds are kicking in and I feel ok emotionally? I couldn't scrape a creative thought together if I tried.

Sometimes, in order not to feel bad, the meds will make you "fuzzy" enough that concentration goes out the window. it's like looking at the world through a very light cheesecloth. Think it's easy? Try it sometime!

I'm not ashamed of this. I look at it as being similar to having diabetes. Both are diseases from something lacking in the blood. A diabetic lacks insulin. I lack seritonin (sp?) It's been a rollar coaster, but if I didn't have the creative outlet of shooting and seeing the beauty in life, I'm not too sure I'd still be here! But I am, and that's what counts!  regards! Good thread!  ;^)

I was in my late thirties when this stuff finally caught up with me although I believe it had been with me much longer.  If things have you all messed up..... think about it.  You might need a little help.  Don't think you're too grown to ask for it.
