It's worked for a lot of years.

The fact some guy had a bad meal at Denny's or Some lady got sick on the cab driver last night (AND has photos from her iPhone to show us) Infantile.

While all that is true, Facebook is free advertisement.
I have found countless photographers who do amazing work (who I might hire one day to do my wedding photos) on facebook. If they weren't on there, I wouldn't have ever found them.
Not to mention local businesses who can show off their latest products to people browsing the web at home.
I just think its a great way to market for free, as well as network.
