Hi everyone,

I'm looking to add more brushes to my kit. I was wondering what brand brushes do you use? And what is your favorite?

*too lazy to log in to my makeup profile

I've got a lot of Urban Decay brushes (I was really trying to find good brushes with synthetic hair)  I also have a selection of paint brushes from the craft store.  Those are my favs for a lot of stuff like liner and concealer.
I also have one or two of the Sonia Kashuk (sp?) brushes and....am generally also pleased with those.  haha.  I think I'm quite easy to please when it comes to brushes though.

I'm still loving the set Billy B gave me! big_smile Seriously, the only other brushes I use because I am a pack rat and a creature of habit are a couple of liner, fan brush, and lip brushes I picked up at an art store. Otherwise I have one of those highlighter (black/white) brushes that I like and a couple of random MUFE ones I tend to use a lot of too.

Omigod if you don't mind spending a small fortune on brushes, totally check out Hakuhodo brushes. By FAR the best brushes I have seen yet.

True, they are lovely, but they aren't cruelty free:) I'm all for quality brushes, but not at the expense of animals!

I love my Urban Decay brushes.
They are fabulous as far as vegan brushes go.
I just wish they had more types of brushes.

Well...a lot of brushes are REAL hair. Just depends on how they GOT the hair:)

I only use synthetic for lip and foundation.

Hmm makes me wonder honestly how many companies label themselves as cruelty-free, but are they REALLY? I mean, companies that use animal products might themselves be cruelty free, but maybe the places where they get their ingredients aren't. Really makes one think, doesn't it? So much research to doooooo!!!

I also have a few smashbox shadow & concealer brushes that i got for free and they're pretty good.

Why do you think I'm always gunning for Smashbox and Urban Decay? Smashbox wins the PETA award almost every year and UD has just gone vegan! MUFE is my obsession, but I'm not sure if they are or not - anyone know?

Good question! I would like to know too!

I know Hakuhodo also makes good synthetic brushes as well.

Mine are a mix of Bobbi Brown, MUFE and Mac ones.  I loveee my Bobbi Brown ones specially their fine detailed liner brush.  For synthetic I normally use craft store finds and they are great.

I have a little bit of everything, but I almost always reach for my smashbox brushes.

they have good snap and retain their shape well with years of use.

I've had my Bobbi brushes for 10 years now, and I shampoo my brushes after every use (as opposed to using alcohol based brush cleaner).

Others I have:
Shu Uemura
Crown (the glue they use is weak)
MAC
Art Store

My new favorite brand:
adesign

And a actress/model friend of mine turned me on to these-they are completely cruelty free  and the softest brushes ever. Even their eyeshadow brushes are synthetic, but they really apply powders like a dream. They are a bit pricey tho (they will give a 20%, but still):

The brandedj look gorgeous! Their website is AWFUL though, it doesn't give information on each brush or the sets when you click on them. No larger pic. Blah. If I'm gonna spend $400 on a brush set, I want to be able to SEE them. I loved the opening vid and the cruelty free...maybe if they update their site I'll go for some!

We could go into business... I'll bring you the varmints from my backyard in Tennessee and you can get their little hairs from their tails!  Call the brand "ROADKILL BRUSHES" when only the best varmint brushes will do.

(i need to go BACK to sleep...)
