Retail is $269. I'd pay $75.00 but I don't record sound separately.

with the accessories, screen, and deadcat, they're a bit pricier. Even if you wouldnt get use out.of one, it's still a great deal. Just found another for $140... If I didnt have my H1, I'd be all on that.

the last two weeks should alleviate me of any kind of stress or bother for the rest of the year.

VERY long 8 days of schlepping around foreign teenagers with cameras (like...waking up at 5:30, and getting home some nights after 1am). followed immediately by a hellish flu-like illness that consisted of two nights of very high fever, to the point that i was shivering while dressed in winter clothes, under multiple heavy blankets. and the piece de resistance...absolutely hideous allergic reaction to something, that has caused me to look like i escaped from a leper colony (all limbs, appendages, and features still intact).

i MAY look normal by saturday.

christ. in. a. box.

in other news...i deleted the windows partition on my hard drive and am now up to a whopping 77gb. so i can put off buying more memory for a minute or two. and i upgraded to mountain lion...and i swear EVERYTHING is faster...from opening to windows, to heavy duty computery shit. it's like...BAM.

I sped up my computer by switching to Xububtu. big_smile

Tiz the time of year for me to get stuffy too. Anytime the weather changes I'll have teary eyes and plugged nose.

How about this model? I call her yesterday for my day out reminder. She not only picks up the phone on the first ring but immediately knows who I am and immediately tells me she is ready and will be there on time. borat

I just saw a model state that she will only do up to "applied nude". Hmmm...

What I like about the dry lake:

Just touched up in The Gimp and cropped. My current monitor on the Xubuntu machine is a heartbeat away from the bin so I actually have no idea how this really looks. The machine with CS3 has the good monitor but it is tied up with a several hour backup.

I was thinking on taking a drive up to Mt. Charleston late tomorrow to get some shots of the Perseid Metor Shower. Probably head out of town around midnight. Anyone else want to make an outing of it?

I would, but I'm in Kauai... gonna take pictures of the meteor shower tomorrow night ... probably over some misty tidal rocks.

I got some great star shots the last time I was out in Maui. Great stuff. The last time I did it out here in Vegas though, it was about 20 degrees in December out in the snow. I'll never do that again...brrrrrr

I edited several clips together to make a movie. It's just the digital equivalent of doing it with a razor and splicing tape.

Rescue from page 4. Now it's my turn to kill the thread. big_smile

Guess what I was asked???

"The http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/ca/88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpg/120px-88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpg issue is a thorny one. Usually, the model says something along the lines of "I need to bring an http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/ca/88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpg/120px-88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpg for my safety." The problem with this is that it means you are calling the photographer a criminal before you ever worked with him! That is probably the most insulting thing you can say to someone you don't know. smile

Also, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/ca/88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpg/120px-88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpgs steal and destroy the creative process. Frequently, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/ca/88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpg/120px-88-90_Ford_Escort_Wagon.jpgs take cell phone pics over the shoulder of the photographer. These are then posted on Facebook hours after the shoot wraps. When the client finds out, and they will, the photographer is screwed and the model will never work for that photographer or client again. If an agency is involved, the agency will black list the model.

Now you know. big_smile

Andrew"

So this is a long story, I wont bore you with the details but... I posted somewhere on here once about needing permits to shoot at places in LV area (Natl. parks, Lake Mead ect) and was told I should be OK for the most part.. well.... it wasnt OK I learned tonight . The Ranger was such an ASS too ! I thought I was going to jail or something ! LOL
Shooting out by Red Rock with a Model tonight. Frist one Ive done since I moved here... we just took pics along side of the main highway and stayed clear of fence and inside the Park itself  ect... Almost got a 275 dollar ticket . No money exchanged, just swapping services as I needed some practice with new lighting set up..
The Ranger said ANY time you shoot on BLM (including APEX) if your promoting someone and dont have a pemit is illegal . REEEALLY ? So because my Son races Motosport , by me taking photos with a light set up makes this PROMOTING and I cant take photos even for the hell of it ? I dont get that . The Ranger said me shooting a model is promoting his career and thats illegal. Even if no moneys exchanged . He told me to warn all my photog. freinds that find that its OK to do so. LMAO !
Is this how sad the state has got ? We NEVER had issues like that in Idaho !
He harrassed us pretty hard ! What if I DID have a permit ? He hassled us for 30 minutes straight before he let us off- thank god ! I think he could have handled that better... had I HAD a permit , alot of that would have been unnessasary and in front of a client and wasted good light . A little embarrassing .
Just a rant, but WOW... I suspected in Parks you may need a permit (even after being told by a few in the area not to sweat it ) I THOUGHT I was playing by the rules and shooting off the road .
SO.... can anyone tell me what permits cost here and is it a daily permit ? Guess Ill have to tack on that fee to my sessions hmm

Its a different world out here, thats for DAMN SURE... regretting my move here .

According to the BLM web site, "Casual use activities which normally involve noncommercial still photography or recreational videotaping would not require a permit or fees. Casual use means noncommercial activities occurring on an occasional or irregular basis that ordinarily result in little or no impact to public lands, resources, or improvements." -- This might not apply if you're shooting in state parks but as far as BLM land goes, you can stand your ground.

Did you use off camera flash and do you think that triggered the ranger to ask for a permit? I've been stopped so many times by law enforcement and I always get away with telling them it's a personal project and non-commercial, but I also try to shoot with natural light whenever possible and avoid running around with a lot of gear. Also, I usually try to find a private area that's hidden from the road so you don't get spotted right away.

So here's the real question. Say you wanted to just get the permit and be done with it. How much is the permit?

Is this how they treat everyone ? I sure would hope not.  I puty that Ahole if he does this the next time and I have a permit.

I know a few places out at RR where I don't get bothered but if you stay at any of the easy-to-get-to places the rangers are on you like flies on shit. I was just out at Calico Basin at the park there a few days ago and saw them rousting a GWC and his "model" out of there. Crystals and City Center in general is very non-photographer friendly for sure though. I shoot for the TV show Vegas Strip and that's Metro's location of choice for busting hookers in Vegas now and they make it very clear that they don't want any video or stills taken inside the property so every time we go in there we have to make the bust then drag the girls (ala Walk of Shame) outside on to the sidewalk where we can shoot footage of them.

They can't do any of that but they can give you a citation. 9 times out of 10 though they just let you off with a warning.

If 100 bucks is going to "sink your business" then you aren't in business to begin with, you're in a hobby that pays from time to time.
