Hello MM!!!
My name is Brittany and I am trying to move into the print and commercial side of modeling. I have done promotional work in the past but I know the rules change a little bit when doing print work. I have been offered a paid shoot through this website and I am really interested in taking the job. The client has asked for all of my information which I know is normal. (no problems there) My question is, Is it okay or normal to ask to see the contract before the date of the shoot? I am worried about any sort of scams or things of that sort. There are a lot more details to this that seem a little strange but being new I am not sure if I am just looking to far into it.
Basically my question is, when doing paid shoots, when does the model get to look over the contract? Can we request it through email before hand or is it normally done the same day as the shoot?
If anyone has experience in this and could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you in advance!!!

I send out, via e-mail, any model release or contract prior to our shoot so the model can look it over and ask questions. Also she now has a copy for her file if she wants to keep it.
Everyone does this a little different

As a party to said contract you have every right to see it in advance. Have it reviewed by an attorney if needed.
I just checked your profile. Have you read everything at this site: http://www.newmodels.com/

Post some of those details. Odds are it's a scam.

I would suggest that you review any contract, in advance, when it's possible. Having a contract pushed in front of you right before you're about to work is not a desirable situation.

The first day my profile was accepted and became active, I got e-mails about castings that offered a thousand or more for the job. I didn't trust those casting because:
1) I am new and have not proven myself to be worth thousands of dollars yet.
2) If I were already somewhat famous, that would be my rate. However, I am not.
3) Even if one is an amazing model, be highly suspect of any offer for thousands of dollars the first time you make a profile.
If possible, research the MMers who are making these job offers.
Most actual photographers may be safe, but some bad guys and scammers sneak under the radar.

You'd indicated a concern about a contract for a photo session because it involves you receiving payment.

Under all circumstances, a basic letter of agreement should be signed by both the model and the photographer before any photos are taken.  This includes photo sessions in which either party is participating for payment, barter (e.g., TFCD), or for free.

Prior to the start of a photo session, a model must specifically indicate in writing that he/she is giving his/her consent to be photographed.  Likewise, a photographer should indicate in writing that he/she intends to take photographs of a model.

No photographer should take any photos of a model without receiving prior written consent from the model.  No model should allow him/herself to be photographed without giving prior written consent.

Some of the other concerns are addressed by other respondents to your question.

And what they would do is send you a check for say, 5000 dollars, ask you to cash it and then send part of it to the makeup artist. The check would be bad, and you would be charged with grand (larceny I think?)

The member has been removed, which likely means that it was a scammer. Please read the "avoid scams" information and do not reply to them.

The removal of the profile, gmail address and google voice number would be clues.

Hollie, do you realize this thread started in 2009? Someone else bumped it again in 2012.

This is a very blunt attempt at identity theft. They suck as much information from you as they can from PM's, then emails and text messages, then send you a check that bounces or offer to make a wire transfer to get access to your bank account information.

It's pretty amazing how Internet scams like this seem to live in perpetuity.

Look at some of these sites to develop a general awareness about how these things work:
