I searched this topic and didn't find anything too helpful. I've been introduced to 2 agencies off of myspace but otherwise I haven't found many. Any help? The agencies I found (like the core) are solely based in Europe. It's sad that there is such a lack of alternative agencies in the U.S. but I guess it's to be expected.

Ugly in New York is one you might try. There are few models on MM that are signed with them. Raquel Reed (19274) is still with them as far as her MM profile states. She rocks my face.

It's been stated on here more than once that Ugly is no longer in existence.

Here's a model http://www.modelmayhem.com/684612 that states:
*Was signed to UglyNY but they closed so I'm looking for a new and better agency.

I guarantee those aren't really agencies.

I am in Iowa but can easily get to chicago (and will probably be living there next year)
One of the agencies off of myspace is getting a new site so they won't be on there. Also--it's non exclusive.

Consider the following two questions:

Who are the people who hire alternative models?

How much do they pay?

Then consider that a model agency will do anything that makes it money in large chunks, and very little else.

To my knowledge, the only sizable legitimate agencies that represents alt types at all are Lemon Lime in LA and Ugly in London.  There are probably a few smaller talent agents in major markets (like NYC and LA) that infrequently find background work for alt types. No agencies of any kind will specialize in alt models because there isn't enough work to sustain a business.

Most of the "alt model agencies" you'll find are actually just website referral programs.  Some of them may even help you find work if you're in a major market.

Which probably won't technically be an agency.

Ugly closed down they are forming The Agency but it's been waiting to launch for months, they were supposed to launch in August and still haven't. I would recommend checking out H.V. Quenzer Agency, they have locations in US, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. In the US their locations are Dallas TX, L.A, and NYC. Their webpage is:
http://www.hvqagency.com
good luck! Let me know if you find any others in the US

HV Quenzer doesn't actually do anything for their models at all.  It's pretty much just another website (like Wicked Talent).  Trust me, I'm on both.

I wondered about H.V Quenzer, I'm on wicked talent and it was a let down.

Unless you actually want to build a client base and/or operate within the law.  Then it becomes surprisingly difficult.  There's a reason why every attempt at an alternative agency has flopped or quickly expanded its board to include more mainstream (eg. bookable) models.

This is pretty shitty for us U.S. ladies. That was literally the only place I could find. If anyone knows anything else I'm still looking for an agency too! You think there'd be at least one in NYC

Angela was referring to Ugly NY being closed. And yes, it shut its doors more than 6 months ago. When they were open, they were much more likely to get work for their mainstream commercial types and a few of their more traditional character types.  The very round, middle-aged, bald man with the goofy grin probably worked more than all the alt models combined.

Why?  Why would there be one?

Before you answer, let me replicate what I said above:

Hah! I didn't know that Hansel started a freaking agency! Neat, but it sucks that so many ladies seem disappointed with it.

I say hell with agencies. I book everything myself through MM and Craigslist and make a decent living doing it. And I don't have to pay someone else for finding me the work!

I am not signed with any of them, but I have some info on the Swedish agencies as I work with people signed with them and others trying to do business with them. Neither I nor anyone I know has ever heard of either one of the Swedish agencies to get anyone any kind of work. I have heard a few things about the way they do business (more like neglect business when it presents itself to them) that have genuinely shocked me.
If I understand it correctly, being signed with one of the Swedish agencies is more of an honorary thing, meaning you are someone in "the scene".
Chaos doesn't accept new model applications at the moment anyhow.
As for the German Rockstar Models, I know someone signed with them and they have gotten her several jobs as a performer.

Sorry to "rez", but I haven't had much help with HVQ.  Though I'm surprised at the comments about Wicked Talent.

I don't prescribe to the belief that you need an agent to find work anyways, but my look is versatile enough that I can pass for mainstream.
