Ophelia find an alt agency by all means - but beware there are those who would exploit you.

But you are 5ft 9ins and have amazing versatility. Go for Agency representation; or at least an Agency who specialises in character rather than the pure alt approach. If a client wants an alt girl they will go to them anyway. UGLY is a good example.

But I can't see why a regular Agency wouldn't want you with your stats and experience.

On a general note; it would be good Ophelia if you and a few other top 'alt' models could do a thread on alt modelling and how to get into it for those who want to pursue that. I have done one on Fitting and Life Drawing/Fine Art modelling so it would be good if other models did some other genre threads -listing for example Agencies who specialise etc.

yeah i dont foresee ever seeing a successful "ALT" agency

simply because alt means alternative and everyones definition is different.  So far the concensus just means alternative to the stereotypical model

except now a days where every broke person turns to modeling to get some extra cash,  or those that are  just exhibitionist and want attention, or those with mental defeciencies who need reassurance that they're beautiful, or the girls that are here to express their creative side, etc. etc...... there is no stereotypical model making up the overwhelming majority anymore  (completely girl next door ladies are top alt models,  shaved headed pierced ladies are showing up on mainstream runways, etc.)

even normal modeling agencies have certain looks they're each known for even though they cater to the mainstream

there would have to be
tat agencies
retro agencies
goth agencies
rock agencies
cyber gencies

and every classification of potential alternative model that any employer could seek in order to make it ever economically feasible sad

Well, it seems like there is a very simple solution.

Petition MM to add an "Alternative" genre to the ones that models already indicate that they are available for.

See, wasn't that easy..

I really do wish there was an Alternative genre on MM! There are some fantastic Alt models here. I mean, damn, Mosh really got her start here!

Was a lot longer but many agencies closed down. There may be more that I don't know of, but this is my list so far.

The only one I would add to that is www.spiritmodels.co.uk, I'm with spiritmodels and darkarts, they seem to be the main alt agencies in the UK. I've been meaning to apply to UGLY but they only cast once every 18months and I'm to busy at the mo. Thanks for the european ones, I will check them out soon! X

I completely agree! As far as Alt agencies go, there are none here in Virginia :-/

There's one in Australia that is exceptional (they are actually called the ''Alternative Modelling Agency'') but I don't think they have an international division :S

this MIGHT be a good resource, but it requires monies. any organization asking for money, especially on a monthly, membership basis, is NOT an agency. an agency works by signing individuals they feel have the potential to make them $$$. as previously stated, i'm sure it will be hard to find one for alternative models specifically as that is not the current market. my hope is that if i continue to do awesome on my own i will get a reputation enough that a REAL agency will approach ME. everything i have seen or tried in the past were essentially scams. took my money but no work ever came from it. thanks for all the info though gals!

"dark arts" is an agency. I just type in "alternative model" in google and it's one of the first links that pops up.

A legit agency won't be seeking models that aren't at least close(like 15-20 minutes drive close) to the city in which they are doing business.....you can't send a girl out on last minute calls or jobs if she isn't local, and they will have tons of local applicants that suit the needs of the agency, and won't need the hassle of trying to book for a girl flying/driving in from hours away.
