I'm confused - perhaps its the late hour or my old brain is fried. Is it or is it not legal to photograph someone under 18 in the nude? Or is there no simple law to answer this question. N.B. I have not and do not shoot minors nude, semi-nude, implied nude or any other form of nude. REPEAT I do NOT.

I sure as hell WILL NOT end up on a sex offended list because I took a nude of a 17 year old just standing there naked...and lets face it...thats all you need...someone out there would point out WHY that pose is sexual.

I personally cant look at a 17 year old standing there and think anything sexual about it, but I see nudity in a different way anways being a nude model myself...but why risk it when you can take the safe route. why would anyone WANT to take a picture of a minor or even ask just because they think they are drop dead gorgeous...I mean, cant they find another drop dead gorgeous model and play it safe? Seems to me that only the pervs will risk taking pictures of minors in the buff. A decent photographer would NEVER ask a minor to pose nude for them.

Sadly in todays state of affairs most conservative people see any kind of nudity as pornography. The picture could be the most innocent of all images ever taken and it would still be considered lewd. I am a new father and just cant stop taking pictures pf my new baby girl and ofcourse some of them have nudity like when she was born and just placed in the bassinet at the hospital. My biggest complaint with this is that we have people who know nothing of art making deliberations on what they consider lewd and sexual. If nudity means that it is sexual does that mean every time I take a shower I am being pornographic? Or when I change my clothes? I do understand though the controversy surrounding this because not all have been innocent pictures but the photos should be looked at as an individual basis and not labeled the same as the illegal photos just because of the nudity. Sally Mann and Jock Sturges have some great talent and should not be persecuted like they are.

Sally Mann and Jock Sturges have some great talent and should not be persecuted like they are. It really is in the eye of the beholder... I have met guys (few girls) that looks at some of the work in the museums Venus De Milo, David, etc... and say "Hubba Hubba"... it's arousal to them... So I could just imagine the same people looking at a nude 14 or 15 year old... artistic or not... "Hubba Hubba" On the other side of it... I have met MANY that don't care if they are naked or not... if they have the look they want... naked or not... it really turns them on. And the sad thing is... I have seen MANY models that you look at them and say "Under 18... Really? They sure do look 25" There really isn't much of a difference between 17 and 18 for some... I bet I could line up a about 20 of photos side by side ranging ages from 16 to 19 and you will not be able to tell who is 16 and who is 19 unless you knew the model already.

I joined MM when I was 16, I had photographers contacting me asking if I would do nude work and how I would be great for such and such concept. I would state that I was 16 (which had correctly been posted on my page) but still I got messages. At 17 I have photographers writing to me asking when do I turn 18 and that they would pay me a little cash on my birthday to shoot with them nude. I personally choose not to write 'no nudes' in my profile as I feel its not necessary, if you're not looking at my profile thats your fault and I'll just politely decline in a message. When I turn 18 I'll decide which path I choose to go as far as nude modeling is concerned and if its what I decide then it'll be mentioned.

I understand your point that the law is open to interpretation and the impacts of being accused and scrutinized are probably devastating, regardless of the legality, but don't get irrational and closed minded and start making blanket generalities. I can think of perfectly legitimate, non-lewd artistic concepts that would require a nude minor model.

You make an excuse for why it's not legitimate, not artistic, or is lewd, not because you're right but because you don't want there to be a right answer. I'm not even going to start that game.

I'm sixeen, and I have it on my profile for my own PEACE OF MIND. Just for peace of mind I like to think that having it on my profile will reduce any chance of anyone creepy asking me. However, I look well over eighteen in person, so I think its just personal preferance.
