So I keep seeing these ads for companies like Olay that are claiming their skin care is the bomb...for a fraction of the price. What do you all think? Any opinions?
I just got a cream from there that was like $25( as opposed to my $75 cream), and ever since people keep commenting on my skin. Are they using the same ingredients but charging less due to mass marketing, or is it fake?
My favorite is Aveeno. I use their foaming face wash ($7), face barsoap ($3), and daily lotion ($15). I have REALLY breakout prone skin and their cleansers and creams are the ONLY products I've ever tried that really work for me. Plus, it saves me money to spend on my $40 Stila foundation
If you're curious about the ingredients, check out the bottle. Ingredients are listed in the order of amount, with higher amounts first. Figure out what the active ingredient in your more expensive cream is and try to find a drugstore brand that has the same one.
people will prolly hate me for this, but its true... my wife uses DOLLAR STORE soaps/bodywash/MAKEUP. *grins* and she's had a MUA on location for exactly *2* of her shoots.

so yeah, don't believe the hype.
Doesn't answer my question...what are the ingredients? And are they the same quality?
There is an awesome book called the New Science of Perfect Skin and it takes you through product ingredients and what works and why and what doesn't and why.
The general advice of the book is that cheaper products have less of ingredients that work, but still contain them. But that is mostly in regards to anti aging and fast action claims.
It also points out that many expensive creams rarely have enough of whatever botanical, chemical or new ingredient they are promoting to do anything miraculous.
In conclusion, drug store brands are fine is what the author thinks.

the ingredients will vary per brand and honestly, no, they arent always the same quality. that being said, some of my favorite products for skin range from Boots which can be bought at Target to SkinCeuticals which has to be bought thru a skin care professional that carries their products. All of which will only benefit you if used correctly and will depend on what your personal skin needs.
Olay uses a lot of similar ingredients, generally in lower concentrations - but they almost always get great reviews. The only 'drugstore' skin care I use is in my kit, BOOTS from Target. That stuff is FANTASTIC and super cheap.
I have used Oil of Olay after I get out of the shower since I was probably 8 or 9 (my mom uses it too) and my skin looks pretty darn good (even with my half a pack a day smoking habit) Could be genetics, could be the lotion, but that's what I use

Boots is awesome! Its actually a huge walgreens type of store over in England but thier own brand stuff ive used since i was a tweeny buying my first cleanser, toner and moisturiser! man i felt so grown up!
I haven't tried Olay. But their are some drugstore skin care brands that I LOVE.
Juice Organics, Yes to, Alba, Boots and Avalon Organics.. to name a few.
I've seen some of those brands in Walgreens and such but I usually buy them at Target.
And since we're talking drugstore I have to rave about this new body wash I bought by Kings and Queens.. it's honey scented but smells exactly like the honey & thyme moisturizer by Korres... Yummy.
I would love to use more drugstore skin care because it works and its inexpensive, but the majority of it is tested on animals. So hard to be cruelty free at the drugstore!

actually boots is the only beauty brand in Target not tested on animals so you can wear it proudly lol.

Again, this is why everyone loves BOOTS.
caringconsumer.org has the list of companies, which is why I really don't most other drugstore brands.

So did I! For a little less than a year and a half.
I personally use ALL Boot's skincare because it's the only thing in my budget that does not break me out, and they don't test on animals.
I use the 4 in 1 face wipes [blue packaging]
Botanics Complexion Refining Foaming Cleasner
Botanics Complexion Refining Toner<3
Botanics Conditioning Clay Mask - this thing is absolutely AMAZING!!!
No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream
No7 Protect and Perfect Eye Cream [Used to use Time Resisting, but I like this one better]
I also use their Botanics Virtually Weightless Colour Adjusting Foundation. It's like butter, but better, and it's not one of those tacky skin-matching foundations.
I use a couple different skin-care and makeup products from drug-stores, mainly from Target. Although, alot of my stuff also comes from a dermatologist, and I buy my moisturizer at Lancome.
From Target I use Neutrogena oil-free acne stress control power-foam wash. My dermatologist told me years ago to use a foaming cleanser with salicylic acid in it and this one works great. I also have a conditioning clay mask and an eye serum from the Botanics line at Target, which is displayed next to the Boots collection.
I've bought a couple Eucerin products from there as well. Eucerin is a pretty good product that used to only be attainable through a dermatologist, so it's great that you can get it at a drugstore now. I use witch hazel as a toner and the Neutrogena wave as an exfoliant.
are there an Avon products worth anything? i use their Nutura night cream and man it works great - and very cheap. im wondering if there are other products they have that work. i buy it by the boatload and use it also on the bod.
i also have Lancome skincare, but they aren't as generous anymore to their freelancers - like years past. i love pretty much everything they have of course...oy.
I tried the Lumene eye cream... it kind of broke me out around the eye if I remember correctly. Their toner was pretty good but I like the Loreal one too.
Dr. Jeffrey Dover's Skin Effects...its great...firms and tones....and I have very sensitive skin and it does wonders for me...they have cleansers, scrubs, overnight lotions, wrinkle creams...etc...all reasonable.

LIES!!!!!!!!!!!
just kidding
Really?
I use the eye cream for myself and loved it.
Also the have a Vitamin C moisturizer I use on myself.
The eyemakeup remover is a favorite too.
Everytime I use it the model actually takes note.

The Botanics stuff is actually from Boot's. It's called Boot's Botanics, just like Boot's No7, Boot's Amazon, etc.

Yeah, it is really hard, I try to be cruelty free too.
But more and more brands are becoming cruelty free. Revlon, Physicians Formula, St. Ives, Almay, Yes to Carrots, Alba, CVS brand, Seche and Wet n' Wild are all cruelty free. Anything Neutrogena/L'Oreal/Aveeno/Clean and Clear/Clearisal is not however.
Have you looked at the list that was posted above? Its very helpful, but not all brands are listed there. Sometimes you have to do your own research and directly ask the companies.
