I figured the title would get everyone's attention... but it really does have to do with hands.
I was just thinking about it and was wondering something. I have always heard it mentioned that the right side of your brain is the creative side and your dominate hand is controlled by the opposite hemisphere of your brain. So I was wondering how accurate that was.
I tend to see myself as creative and I know my wife is and we are both left handed so I wanted to see if this was actually a left hand dominated industry.
In reality I know the majority of people in the world are right handed so I would think that the same would apply here. My guess is that either this is just a well known myth or more of a scientific theory than a fact...
Now after this long winded explanation I was just wondering what the actual facts are here... since this is suppose to be a creative type industry.
Also it would be interesting to see the difference between the work of a right handed person in this industry against a left handed person. If there is any real difference at all...
So if everyone would just tell us what your dominate hand is we can begin the testing...lol
I'm ambidextrous. I always come out right around 50/50 on brain hemisphere dominance tests. I was told by a psychological researcher once that makes me statistically prone to mental illness. How can you get more creative than that?
Edit: where's Click Hamilton? If he shows up, you'll know why it's relevant.
left brain/right brain is not generally considered valid science anymore in terms of creative/analytical
For the sake of discussion, I'm both mathematically and creatively oriented, and ambidextrous. I write with my right, but sign (American Sign Language) left-dominant. I can eat with either hand with equal ease, even with chop sticks.
I'm right-handed but I can ONLY swing a bat or a golf club lefty. Been that way my whole life. I also seem to have slightly better dexterity with my left-hand than most right-handers but I wouldn't call myself ambidextrous.
Both my maternal grandfather and maternal uncle were exactly the opposite: They were lefties but could only swing bats and clubs like right-handed people. Neither of them were particularly creative. Go figure.
I have no idea what all that means as it applies to right-brained/left-brained but I do think there's some weird genetic things going on here.
My children are both right-handed and do pretty much everything like right-handed people do.
