I have this fantastic opportunity in a week that involves displaying nipple clamps for a major fetish/latex company. I'm super excited, but one thing concerns me. I realize that the shoot is around when my period is going to rear its ugly head, which means hyper sensitivity...like no joke sensitive!! Needless to say, period + nipple clamps= significant pain (and unfortunately not the delicious kind!!)
With that being said, is anyone familiar with a topical anaesthetic? Something I can place on my nipples to numb them a bit?
Emla cream, it is a prilocaine/lidocaine cream with I believe a 10% potency, apply approximately 1 hour before you need it to be taking effect. Apply thickly then cover gently with saran wrap. It is used for people who have large gauge IV's being used and in non medical circles for intricate surface piercings and tattoos and cuttings.
I wonder if the drops that people put on sore teeth/gums might help??? It has desensitizing properties ****warning**** have never tried this personally
Anything that has benzocaine in it is a local anesthetic. Cant think of a product though right now.
In Germany piercing stores use a topical anesthetic before the pierce the skin. Might be something you could check on if piercing places in your area might have something like that...

You can also get lidocaine spray that is used to kill the sting of sunburn. The only problem is that spraying it on a sensitive nipple can cause more problems rather than fewer. (They will stand up nicely, though.)
you could probably get the result you want by inserting something in the clamp mechanism so it wouldn't bite as strong as usual...a small piece of rubber, high density foam or whatever.
How long will they need to be on? I'm not sure how long the topical anesthetics will stay with you... adjusting the tension is a good idea if at all possible.

You should NEVER use that kind of stuff before a piercing or tattoo. NEVER.

+1
Also used for some children who have to be given daily injections. This stuff does totally numb the area where it is applied when used as described above.
May need a prescription to buy it? That, however, should be easy to get upon request for your doctor, just tell them you are having electrolysis work done as they commonly prescribe it for use during that procedure.

Here is Germany they use it and I know they used to in England as well because a got a piercing done there but that was in 2000.
I know its not supposed to be done for tattoos but I have never heard of it for piercings...

The problem with those creams is that it tends to soften the skin, but I know a few top notch piercers who use emla usually when dealing with complicated in and out surface bars and or dermal anchors/transdermal implants, just because most people have problems dealing with the pain of titanium lifts and pocketing.

Well I am glad they used it on my piercings because I am a wuss....

Putting and having clamps on is not the problem ... but taking them off will get your attention.

Common sense and a clear solution rears its pretty head.
The best advice I can lend is do not use nipple clamps for more than 20 minutes. Leaving them on for extended periods of time can and will lead to permanent nerve damage.

yes. You can lose a nipple if you are not careful.

According to what authoritative source?
Anyhow, wouldn't it depend on the clamp, the tightness, etc.?
Sometimes I really appreciate the topics that come up here and take me out of reality.
There's nothing like going from a bad work commute, to someone's nasty fish sandwich breakfast microwaved in the kitchen at the office, and then checking the forums and seeing a thread about nipple clamps and a thorough discussion about them.
I am not making light in the least, as I understand it to be a very valid question/topic in this industry. Just pointing out the juxtaposition of technical nipple clamp conversations and pondering what kind of font to use in my next TPS Report.
If you do find your anesthetic, do make sure to remove the clamps regularly. Since you don't feel your body anymore, damage can occur easily which might lead to necrosis/amputation. It would be a shame to lose your nipples over a shoot.
Go to your local drug dealer and buy a "20 sack" off of him, go home dump the powder in a cap of soda, add water, mix well and rub liberally on nipple/areola area. Wait 5 mins. then tell the photographer or assistant to put some clothes pins on them and see if you feel anything... If this doesnt work he probably sold you baking soda, go back and do a drive by on his hood. LOL ! JK!

Agreed.
What happens when all of the solutions presented above don't work? It would be best to avoid the situation if possible. If not, then think about how to avoid the pain.
At the absolute very least, talk to the photographer about it.

If you don't like pain, it will show. It's best just to be honest
I was once in an office rummaging around for those big binder clips you use to hold papers together. When I couldn't find any and asked where they were, the entire office burst into laughter. Seems binder clips were banned because they had caused everyone to crack up upon mentioning them ever since a guy in the office took two of the biggest ones up to a well endowed female and loudly pronounced "I found your nipple clips".

They banned binder clips in the office because of that?? That's just ridiculous. </threadjack>
I want to thank everyone for their advice. This has been very helpful. I'm not sure which way I'm going (unfortunately, postponing is not an option...deadline to be met, and there are others involved.). I'll figure it out.
Apart from that, the dichotomous nature that has become my life (btwn my day job as a biology teacher and side passions/personal life) makes me chuckle almost on a daily basis. I think it makes my life full and playful. And I get to shake my head in amusement while thinking: if only the individuals in my public life knew!! Oy!!!
