LOL there was a kind of heated discusion in the retouch pro forums about that. The producer of the dvd went in to comment as well as acouple of beta testers.
I smelled something fishy about it. Specially because of its marketing terms of "what the professionals won't tell you" lines...
Someone's website wrote: Lesson 6: The sh*t no one else will teach you: Now you're ready for your Black Belt in Retouching.
Tackle the "touchy subject" problem-areas that no one else will talk about. Stretchmarks, cellulite, back fat, neck twists, veins, discolored hands and feet, freckles, moles, surgery scars, ashiness, frizzy hair, and jewelry removal.
I guess the other sites don't go over the clone or healing tools? How much would you have to pay this guy to explain the healing / replacement tools coming out in CS5?
I respect his work; I respect even more that he's getting paid to do what he is; I'm skeptical that the readership here (at least those who bother to look around at the wealth of information here) would learn a whole lot.

Great retoucher, sounds reputable, good samples, the price seems to be about right. You get what you pay for! I don 't believe in free tutorials, I always buy the best sets available, the best commercial actions I can afford, the best software I can afford etc. This man is charging what he thinks his product is worth. I respect that!
If you think about yourself as 'cheap' you will be perceived as 'cheap' always, by anyone, no matter how good you are. So many people here don't understand this and absolutely devalue their own time & work. I see retouchers doing 'touch ups' for $ 5.00. That's ridiculous!
It is better to charge what you think you're worth and to serve clients with money (and there always will be people who WILL pay that price), then to lower your standards and to sell your time or knowledge for peanuts. There are retouchers who charge thousands od dollars and there are retouchers who charge cents.
There are some amazing retouchers on MM but the average level of retouching heer is just dreadful.

A very expensive way to learn basic stuff as others have said. I would advise the OP to check out Lynda.com or kelbytraining.com both these sites have far more content available for roughly the same price.

Then why are you here?

Actually, a year of Kelbytraining comes in $100 cheaper; Lynda $50 cheaper. That's $300 & $250 respectively relative to the 'normal' price at this other place. And others can say what they want, but in this case the cheaper sites are going to give you far more for your money.
Never heard of him, and it is on the expensive side, I think.
One of the things I have found from those sort of dvd tutorials, is that they only teach the basics to retouching, and they will not give away their very unique retouching secrets, or how they get the unique "look" that they are known for.
If you haven't learned the basics to retouching yet, you can go on youtube, and view a lot of basic tutorials for free.

You know, like the Dave Hill, or Jill Greenburg look. Those are unique, one of a kind style. Although many have tried to copy them, I've yet to see anyone do those specific looks, exactly like they do.
Jill, for instance, tutors the basics, but not her unique look. Love to say that too.
Well, y'all are a little more charming here than on RetouchPro lol. I realize people are going to say what they are going to say, so I'm not going waste any time spitting propaganda. I believe the product speaks for itself.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to message me here or on the Slickforce forums (http://slickforce.com/forums), or you can publicly post your question. Thanks, and good luck in your personal and professional endeavors.

Could get lots of 25.00 months compared to purchasing that one set.
I opt in for Lynda often, drop it when I don't need it. They have many different teachers , all with their own special ways. That is what Photoshop and many other apps too are about. Pick up little bits here and there, apply them as you learn. When you forget that unused secret* then it's best to have reference material.
I looked at the Photoshop stuff for the recent changes. Now they even have some courses on lighting I heard.
What I like is I can bounce in and out of other app training keeping me up with all the image apps, and can still find some advanced tips in Photoshop at the same time.

Can you actually download the tutorials on lynda.com when you pay?
Or do you have to pay again if you want to revisit a tutorial?

Since the owner of the videos is in this thread, just wanted to give him a heads up that the DVDs are available for download on RapidShare library... I do not condone piracy, so I am totally against this...
Well, I'm not really sure how that's possible since the series isn't even completed yet. It's not released until January 30, and not even the beta-testers have the complete series. Thanks for the heads up, though.
I just joined three torrent sites claiming to have my series (well, they got my membership money!) but there are no working links when you login (they're all fake so they'll get your money just like they got mine and then there's nothing to download). So I just made somebody some cash LOL.
FYI, though I'm sure piracy is inevitable, the series won't be completed until days before the release date, and even then there are downloads, corresponding hi-res images, and tutorial upgrades available for free throughout 2010 with your purchase that simply require your customer ID.
Thanks again for the heads up, and again, I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

Good to hear is just fake allegations Nick. Most of those sites just put things for propaganda, and sometimes even virus. And glad to hear you thought of everything already having a members only area sounds like a very smart move.
Best training you can give yourself is at least a solid month of making retouching your only hobby, added in with information you can find free online.
Only through practice and mastery of technique are any of the tricks going to do you any good.
I also recommend lynda.com, if you are going to spend any money. If for no other reason than, in addition to very thorough walkthroughs for Photoshop and retouching, it has a growing list of tutorials for almost all software imaginable. It's even great if you want to gain an appreciation for what software can do that you don't have if you're thinking you need it.

i agree totally, i have followed the instructors mm portfolio for a while now and i would love to be able to add his twist to some of my images. i think it would be very valuable as a retoucher to be able to offer many different styles of retouching to your clients. yes it is a big chunk of change but in the grand scheme of things if it gets you one more job then it has payed for itself.
