It would be nice if they would increase the photographers pay just so that they could budget for better shoots.  For those that choose to shoot for the site, profit isn’t the goal.  But considering the weight they put on quality of photography, the pay is insulting at best.

And seeing as how the rules specifically state that photographers are not to ask for payment from the models, an increase in set payment will do very little to increase the quality of sets from a photography standpoint.

seriously, I agree with above comment.
there is a reason why I decline every request for a shoot with them.
but in retrospect, lets hope the immage quality does get better because from what I saw a few month back it was nothing but any teenage girl with a digital camera doing typical bathroom myspace poses.ughhh!

$200... $100 for photographing, $100 for editing the photos per their instructions.

I don't think SG really considers photographers talent.  And besides, they apparently already have photographic talent locked up, even at lesser rate.

Maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe there is a new directive at SG, improved sets, slight variation in the plan.... mixing up the talent a bit.

I hope so.  SG with a more progressive payrate to photographers would do a lot to support emerging talent which in turn helps feed the cogs in SG's wheel.

James is 100% right as of last time i got the info from them.  However, he didn't mention the 2-year noncompete, in case that matters to you. it mattered to me.

Make sure you note of course the obvious lack of copyright.

You sell every image from the set to SG for $200 all files had to of course be photoshopped and resized one for thumbnails and one for the actual enlarged file stamped and sealed with the copyright logo.

But I suppose if you get underwear its ok right?

i could suck up the copyright thing in exchange for that much bareassed (no pun intended) publicity, but the no-compete was a deal breaker for me. if you're paying me that little, i'm going to need to look elsewhere as well.

Best double check that, I was asked to submit non-photoshopped images with no logo.

Totally agree.  For a while now the site has been fairly vocal about increasing standards for sets.  A majority of which, falls on the photography, and set themes.

But I don’t think they have any motivation to increase photographers pay.  I would assume the number of photographers that are willing to work under the agreement terms is so large that it’s easier, and cheaper to just pick out the few gems in the crap pile.  Rather the nurture consistent talent.  Personally I think it shows in the quality and creativity, or lack thereof sometimes.  But it is a business.  And a majority of the members, don’t know the difference, nor care.

Don't let the SG *goddesses* hear that.

SG's policy is to flat out refuse any set, no matter how good, if the photographer asked the girls for money to do the set.

Shit, for those rates, I'd better get more than just some pictures. Read what you want, I didn't make it incognito.

Man I can take those types of images for free without paying. That's like going to a porn site to buy some pussy that you'll never get. They are just looking for some tricks. There was a group out here in the Cali. Bay area that was trying to pull that same b.s. they didn't last to long.

Correct.  Although girls do seek out, and pay local photographers to shoot sets sometimes.  If the photographer specifically asks for payment to shoot a set the set will be rejected, and the photographer is essentially black listed.

It can be seriously confusing.

Dude, SG is the Walmart of "alternative" porn. Every 20-year-old Jack Off Jill fan on Livejournal with a nosering and "weird" hair seems to be a model for them, even though everything I've heard says that the pay and treatment is absolutely abysmal - it's all for the attention and ego boost for a lot of those girls. A friend of a friend was one of their first models, and from how I heard it, she was sent to promote SG on MTV and had to pay all expenses - airfare, hotel, etc - herself, without them even offering to cover it, and was paid so poorly for her modeling that she left. My coworker is a photographer who just shot a set for them, and even though it's been up on their site for weeks, she has yet to see a cheque. My last boyfriend's girlfriend before me got an offer to model for them, when the rate was $300 for 50 photos, and he put it like this to her: "You're going to be paid $6 each for porn photos that are going to be all over the Internet for the rest of your life. Is that worth it to you?" So now it's $10 each...nope, still not worth it.

IMHO, SG is a lame site with mostly lame looking women who would be hard pressed to be published anywhere else. They also seem to have a very widely known reputation for taking advantage of anyone who will let them do so. As for their self described image as a site that "empowers" women - suuuuuuuuuuuuuure!

To me, that's the funniest part, that new-wave "girl power" version of feminism - "hey, ladies! Be a strong and powerful woman - flash your tits for drooling losers to gawk over!"

The other funny part: The fact that they make a big deal of how girls from their site get picked to be in music videos, magazines, etc... There are literally THOUSANDS of models on that site, most of whom have a very similar look, so to be noticed in that kind of a crowd, you'd have to be pretty frickin' remarkable. And if you're that remarkable, you'd probably be noticed anyway. For every one model who might get some kind of notoriety as a direct result of being on SG, there must be hundreds who never get anything out of it other than a few hundred bucks and some cheap underwear - and they can't even take their business elsewhere, as SG has a no-compete contract. Lame indeed.

I always got the impression that SG is geared to regular girls, not career models. A few hundred bucks, some SG gear, and bragging rights is worth it to alot of regular girls.

Explain that no compete contract please.  Does that mean the girl cannot appear on any other pay website, or the photos submitted are no longer the copyright property of the photographer, or just what?

well, it's a good sign, they raised the rate....
but for most parts, they also burned a lots of bridges,... litle to no credit to photographers,
wherever you look can't find he photographer of the set,..... PG can't ask for support, oh big no no,....   basically , you could end up a whole day, between  driving, setup, shoot and edit,...
for a maybe,.... girl does,  2-3hrs,  PG, does 8-10 hrs,.... think the rate should reflect that, never mind, they want the whole kids and cabudlle, all copyrihts,  you can't even order a print for the SG girls itself,..... and the fineprint,... looks like your are signing yourlife away,....
oops venting,... I mean, if I had a 5 page contract, in lawyer english, for the model to sign for each shoot, hmmm,.......guess got to be thankfull, for the media,...
I'll do a set or 2, maybe food, since they don't like gore,
what's more, they haven't done, non for the boys, not that Iam very interested, just like tattoo's and the boys do have good tattoo's,  not quiet equal oportunity, eh, in the land of the free,...
anyway, hope this had a constructive impact,
cheers,  Rob

Why did they have to raise the pay, now that I'm unemployed? WHY?!

The no-compete that SG makes photographers AND models sign says that Models who model for an accepted SG set -AND- photographers that photograph an accepted SG set may not work for ANYONE SG identifies as a competitor, for a period of two years after you complete that accepted shoot.  SG reserves the right to identify anyone as a competitor.

They do also add a little hitch for photographers which is that the contract is for a full copyright buyout in addition to their no-compete clause.

As far as I'm aware, SG models cannot model for paysites considered to be "competition" - this includes places like godsgirls.com and so on. The thing is, since many of their models are tattooed, pierced, have unusual hair, etc., the only other paysites a lot of them really could appear on would be other alt-porn sites, all of which are considered to be competition. They may also not disparage SG in any way, according to this bit from their contract that I found, apparently posted by a former SG model:

(1) During the Term and for two (2) years after the Term, Model agrees not to disparage SG in any manner. This Agreement shall be governed by and construed under the laws of the State of Oregon and the parties hereby consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue in the courts sitting in Portland, Oregon.

(2) Model agrees that during the Term, and for two (2) years after the expiration or termination of this Agreement, Model will not hire (as an employee, agent or model) any employee of SG or directly or indirectly persuade any employee of SG to discontinue employment with SG or to become involved with any business which is a SG Competitor, nor seek to persuade any independent contractor to discontinue such contractors relationship with SG nor will Model assist anyone else to engage in any of the foregoing.

To reply to Cspine, that's how they get away with paying and treating models poorly, by appealing to young women who don't know enough to know any better... They just think "hey, this means I'm hot - I'm a Suicide Girl!" and don't really get just how badly they're being exploited.
