I barter quite a bit.  Many women in my "circle" who have skills but cannot afford to pay, barter for things like fitness, massage, lessons, babysitting etc.  It works when both parties are equally interested in the stuff being traded.

I love moneyless paid work!  Food gets me every time.

So far, I have been compensated with the following:
Lunch.
Cheese.  Just cheese.
Goggles.
A chocolate malt.
Gas.
Six gourmet cupcakes (since I spent 8 hours in a corset on my 18th birthday).
A handmade choker.

I love to trade also.  I would be open to different kinds of exchanges but at the moment I've been doing a lot of trade for content.  So I model for free and the photographer shoots some sets that I need for free.  Everyone wins and you build great working relationships with other professionals.

Over the years I've done countless "barter" shoots. Some have been:

Figure session for my use in exchange for a Portfolio session for models.
"         "       "    "     "   "     "          "    had shots for actors and Pr shots for musicians, actors and one comedian.

Figure session in exchange for custom portrait sessions.

Head shots of radio station on air personnel in exchange for free ad time.

Exterior and interior shots of restaurant for their advertising and use on the menu in exchange for a number of free meals for myself and a guest.

PR and ad shots of resort hotels in exchange for no cost accommodations.

Barter can be good!

I was thinking about this thread just yesterday.
Then today it came up again in another thread.
So... bumped for relevance.

My latest TF* was a photoshoot for a place to stay when traveling.

To the OP - Travel is the best and most effective way to get my complete attention. Also, if I am in a place where I have never been or am traveling to and from, travel is good too. A place to stay is good as well. Other than that, cash is appropriate. I have shot for a good meal, and of course provided a good meal. Oh yeah, and photos, I have provided photos.

Not to derail the conversation, but I wish more people understood that.  All too often it is thought to be a matter of "free" modeling for "free" prints.

It's a trade of services.  So it's always best advised to choose wisely.

Yes, there are sometimes intangibles that come into play in making these decisions too.

That's not really what the thread is about.

trading 2 images for the persons time and turning that into 100 bucks is one thing, havoing that person return and with a friend says somthing else. now i understand why this happens. my passion is somthing special as i am just starting to understand.
i work so much my arm aches and ill have to raise the price for aditional images to slow things down.TF2IMAGES works good for me

I did a TFP that was kinda cool recently...

Time For Printer

I upgraded my printer, and a model that I'd just shot with saw the one that I was tossing out and offered to shoot for it.  I told her it's flaws and good points, how old it was and told her to put a time value for it that she thought was fair.

Both left the shoot happy.  I need to do more of this stuff...

I've offered two separate free week of sailing in the Virgin Islands.  I was surprised only one model took me up on it filling only one of the two weeks.

I prefer models barter with someone for cash and then use that cash to barter with me. With that being said, if any models can replace a transmission on a Jeep, I'll be willing to barter that.

eg.. have no money for the shoot...but tells me she just paid $500 to the vet for the rat dog
eg.have no money for the shoot...but is leaving for a three week trip to Jamaica.

thats why , we turn hard asses

Uno, if she showed up with a brand  new car: she 'had' money.

I have personally stated many times, you need some images for something specific and cannot pay my rates, offer me something I might just help you out!!!! Dinner, drinks etc. something to at least say thank you for driving into Atlanta, during rush hour traffic because I needed these images yesterday!
