Maybe I honestly don't get what plus size means. To me it sounds like a "less than this is normal" phrasing, & being proud where you're at is different than "you're not normal if your not...".
I honestly think its that thought that puts more stress on people that are above whats healthy for them.
Some of the girls in this thread should not be labeled plus. I don't think its right. I'm sure most people wouldn't think thats right.
& to the girls that wear themselves proud & loving themselves (it shows in the face), that give young girls peace that theres nothing wrong with them.
sorry for the rant. Its late & I'm tired. I don't like seeing thin girls being categorized as plus sized. When that happens, so few woman have a fighting chance at this image.
Marianne Michaela wrote: well said! I'm a bigger plus size model (14-16), but in theory plus size modelling starts around a size 8-10 and can go up to any size. so there's a lot of diversity! that's the beauty of it (for me)
And that's the thing, too -- one must account for mainstream vanity sizing versus designer sizing. In traditional designer sizes, I'm a 10-12, but it today's mass-market vanity-sized clothing I am a 6-8. One of the girls you named above, with a 28" waist, she would wear a 6 in a ton of store brands but is a 12/14 designer size.

that's a good question!
working plus size models have to have certain things: a beautiful face, length, long legs, good skin, nice teeth and a body that is in proportion. in theory, there is no size limit. But we all understand that, when you are very very big, the chances of you still having amazing skin and a proportianate body get smaller and smaller.
I know a few plus size models with size 20-22, I'll look them up for you. The most famous bigger plus size model is without a doubt Velvet d'Amour, mentionned earlier in this thread.
hope this answers your question
Yes that answers my question..... thankyou for not taking offense at the question

a great plus size model that is a bit bigger: Rosie Mercado. she started doing pageants and is a model now. she is also the face of full figured fashion week, a beauty editor for Skorch magazine and a make up artist.

Chloe Marshall...She's the one from the u.k right?? She's absolutely stunning. I saw a pic where she was in her bathing suit in a pageant, I believe, next to thinner models in bikinis. How encouraging to see! I would've felt completely intimidated...which is hard for me to be lol

yes, she was first runner up for Miss UK. But I like to keep modelling and pageants seperate :p
she has lost weight since, and I think she really benefitted from it. it's not as much losing weight as toning down I think: her legs were a little too heavy and they are a lot "firmer" now. nonetheless, very stunning and talented model

hi Rebecca,
a lot of people think that way. to me, the beauty of plus size modelling is that plus size models come in many sizes! she is a size 10-12. Okay, that is definitely smaller than a size 14-16, but it is also a lot bigger than the "standard" size 2-4, right? Plus size models should not be compared to plus size women, but to regular size models.
a lot of people in this niche of the industry talk about the size restrictions of the main industry, and how young girls are being forced to be a certain weight and size. Yet those same people also say "that's not a plus size model, her size isn't big enough" or "that is not a plus size model, plus size modelling starts at size 14 or up". But that makes them hypocrites (in my eyes), and no better than the people they look down on.
So I want celebrate plus size models in all sizes, from 8 to 22. Inspiration has no size.

not exactly new in this industry (she was a plus size model for 15 years, retired, had 2 children and now she's back) but always an inspiration: Natalie Laughlin
