Hey, wow thanks for replying.
I would LOVE to do it, do you think I would have a chance? I applied to Hughes last year but had no luck, am currently updating my portfolio to give it another shot.
Im a bit worried about my age (will be 23 this may) and also that theres so few agencies with plus size that I know of. I know Impact models in London were interested in me and one in the south, however the latter commented on my frame, saying it was too big. Even when I have been a stone lighter I still wore the same jeans size and I wasnt healthy then.. hmmm.

This season's line was modelled by a dutch model, Linda Ruck. Equally stunning, but again: no pictures.

if anyone finds them, please post them here smile

robyn lawley does it again with cosmopolitan smile

a fashoin spread based on the movie "the notebook"

one of my favorite models with one of my favorite movies, gotta love it!

also, cosmopolitan is scoring major points for me... this is the third time they have worked with robyn and showed off a plus size model. Without creating a big mediacircus like other magazines do. yeey cosmo!

What a gorgeous face!

I really wish more photographers would be open to shooting plus models in strong, editorial-style concepts - like that Plus Model Mag spread with Jennifer and Laura. IMO, I feel that photographers over-seas seem to be more open to the idea (Plus models from agencies overseas have a lot of editorial/fashion-oriented work in their portfolios), while a lot of photographers here in the States still seem to prefer Straight size/Standard fashion models for that type of work. I hope that changes soon though!

I want to see more curvy figures in edgy couture and fierce editorials! smile

Really? I love glimpsing through the books of Plus models overseas for that reason! I've seen a good deal of editorials from European fashion mags with plus models than here in the states too, but again, that's just my own personal opinion :}

"The seaweed is always greener is somebody else's lake!" Hehe

All-around, I just hope to see equal exposure for all sizes in the industry soon!

My favorite plus size models are in my port, and in my upcoming books.  I love the way light and shadow falls on the curves of what is termed plus size...to me they are just gorgeous.

Beauty isn't confined to weight and measurements.

well, to be honest, you're on the right side of the ocean wink. Plus size modelling comes from america. Over there, there are nice plus size clothing labels, plus size fashion week, plus size magazines...
we don't have that here. A lot of photographers have never even heard of it!
so just network your ass of and pay some people if you have to, to get you started.
good luck!

I think was is important is that ladies out there aspiring to rock what they've been blessed with as a plus size model still needs to work at toning those features of theres to as high a level as they can.  The women posted in this thread have spent as much time and effort on physical conditioning and tone, nutrition, the smootheness and complection of thier skin etc. as any other professional model from any other genre.  No model can show up anywhere in "as-is" condition and expect to be taken seriously.  The women in this post are gorgeous because they've believed in themselfs and put the work in.

very true. people pften forget that plus size models are models. they are models first, and plus size women second. they work hard on their body, watch their diet, work out and work very hard to stay fit and gorgeous

IMPORTANT!

the beautiful Robyn Lawley poses nude for Glamour magazine...

http://www.glamour.com/images/health-fitness/2011/02/0201-01-glamour-body-survey_aw.jpg

but the article is even better:

Read these words: “You are a fat, worthless pig.” “You’re too thin. No man is ever going to want you.” “Ugly. Big. Gross.” Horrifying comments on some awful website? The rant of an abusive, controlling boyfriend? No; shockingly, these are the actual words young women are saying to themselves on any typical day. For some, such thoughts are fleeting, but for others, this dialogue plays on a constant, punishing loop, according to a new exclusive Glamour survey of more than 300 women of all sizes. Our research found that, on average, women have 13 negative body thoughts daily—nearly one for every waking hour

read the rest here
http://www.glamour.com/health-fitness/2 … dies-today

this is an issue that concerns all women, of all shapes an sizes.

and robyn looks wonderful in it smile

Yes! Absolutely!

As someone who has been around for a (very long, lol) while, I can tell you that those who have been in the industry for some time are absolutely thrilled at the attention and exposure that is beginning to be given to plus models.

But...along with this comes the idea that being large=plus size model, and that is still not certainly the case. as mentioned many times in this thread, plus size woman does not equal plus model, and often a pluys model may not actually be plus sized.

The 'arrival" so to speak of the plus model has surely been instrumental in providing positive body images for young women and girls, but yet, a model is still a model. (fashion) Models are still tall, plus or otherwise, and still have industry standards to meet. (hence as someone also said, plus models have fairly flat tummies). They also have minimal cellulite and stretch marks, good skin, hair and teeth, and all those other qualities that make a model.

I often have given (solicited) advice to potential and aspiring plus models. If losing weight (in a healthy way) is something I mention or suggest, this can be met with some degree of anger or hostility. Same if I may say one is too short. I did not make these standards, but they are there.

The same way I understand I am never going to book Torrid or Forever 21, but I will rock the hell out of Sears, lol. Or that some plus models do lots of lingerie work, and some are more geared to basic commercial catalog.

Plus modeling has opened a whole new avenue, but it is still a road with lots of familiar directions and few detours.

My suggestion is any girl interested in plus modeling, go to www.plusmodelmag.com (I have been writing for them for the last 4 years, and you may see me in there a few times wink), read everything you can, absorb the info and the images, as it is spot on and all in one place. You can familiarize yourself with everything from the models, to the agencies, to the designers, to the retailers. You can even find the names of photographers who shoot plus models and shoot them well and as they should be.
