High Fashion??? Maybe I looked at the wrong profile, all I saw was Internet / Photoshop Whizzer style attempts at glamour ... oh well, not important ...

There is a demand for older models. Many advertisements require older models, yep you know the one's. Many films need moms, dads, grandparents etc. It's not about just take my pic and build my ego. I love the business, the travel and meeting new people. What is there not to love. Why get out just because one is older?

I enjoy working with older models, they seem to have more self-confidence and are generally are in pretty good shape.

Some of the most popular models on my site are the over-30 models. As long as they have the look, age really doesn't matter, and in some cases like with business-themed sets it can be an advantage.

Yeah, that's only true for fashion/agency, etc.

Definitely NOT true for glamour, nude, or fetish, which are all valid types of modeling. The fashion industry as much as it likes to wallow in its own importance, doesn't have a lock on modeling.

I'm making a fairly decent career out of this and I'm 43. I know the income I'm making isn't "pretend." Nor is the enjoyment I've been lucky enough to share with some truly talented photographers.

Mo is a perfect example. She is versatile enough to go from alternative modeling to lifestyle modeling, where as you point out, older models can have an advantage.

I would suggest that anyone who has doubts about older models, check out my list:

https://www.modelmayhem.com/list/297527

ALL of these women are over 40. And some of them are even in their 50s.

I am gonna be 35 in a few days. I always was interested in modelling by hadn't really came into my looks until after I hit 30.
Luckily for me I still look young, and if you didn't know you how old I was you would never guess.
A little late to be starting in this industry but better late than never. Its been a blast!!

I am an older model and have been doing this for a long time...more then half of my life. I think that the "standards" for models have opened up alot which is good...you used to have to pe perfect...skinny as a pole...at least 5 9....beauty comes in so many different shapes, sizes and colors....the expansion has allowed variety to paint MM and the modeling industry...I think its great smile

I would rather shoot models in there 30's or 40's than most in there 20's. I find that the older models with there years of experience are easier to work with and don't act like Divas and are very pleasant. But know that I am 51 myself and been involved in the photography & modeling industry for 30 years, longer than models in there 20's have been on this earth. Sure models in there 20's are younger, but push come to shove and I'm working in a tight time frame,I feel the older more experienced models will get the job done. Just my thoughts.......

And there have been forum threads here on Mayhem for the "older" models for years.

This one started in 2007 - https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thre … 6078&page=

both were continued as second part when the admins felt long threads were slowing up the servers.

This isnt something new.. it is something Mature.. Sexy.. and classy.. and something that more and more advertisers are noticing.

I entered the "modeling world" late in life. I am now 37 yrs old. For me, I could not model when I was younger to many priorities. I was married and had my first child at 16. Another at 19 and the last one at 23! I am a very proud grandma to boot...Oh the SHOCK!

I have lived most of my life in reverse...I was born old and grew young. The marraige may not have lasted but the kid's did...lol....I went back to school at 31 and now have my B.A. at 37 I am persuing my M.F.A

My daughter is 21 yrs old thus, I have spent a lot of time around 20 something girls/models; none of which have the maturity, reliability or self confidence modeling requires.

(That is just my experience with the few young models I know personaly...No stereo-typing intended)

Another thing I have noticed regarding the younger generation: Many do not take very good care of themselves:( some even to the point of laziness!

As far as age making one to "old for fashion" I would beg to differ....Us old people wear clothes to..ha,ha

Just my unsolicited oppinion. smile

I find this so funny when coming from the individual who posted it. It's one thing to hold onto semi-outdated high fashion industry standards, it's another to have many amateurish glamour images and headshots of models who look older than 30 and hold onto semi-outdated high fashion industry standards...

I think as long as 1) the age doesn't show 2) you've aged gracefully and have the look or 3) stick to a specific venue that allows for an older look you can model over 30... you can even live off of it!

Rules are meant to be broken and there's always exceptions. Let's innovate!

Plus, there's always a strict beauty regimen and cosmetic surgery that can keep you looking younger than 25 long into your late 30's and early 40's.

lol....I just started because until a couple of years ago I did not think I had the looks, height, etc. It took someone else to encourage me to take a photo (a top fashion designer) and I am having a blast.

On being a "Pretend model"......but of course. How do you think I create some of the looks that I do smile ?  Isn't that what art is all about.....creating the illusion, the dream, the fantasy........?

I don't think a "12" year old could do what I (and a few others) do and if they did everyone involved would be labeled a pervert and put in jail. smile
