now eventually i'll get brighthouse to setup my new place with internet and maybe start unpacking before i totally procrastinate that and end up living out of boxes sad

Sorry for bringing in an outside this threat topic to this thread, but I need to get this off my chest.
Something to ponder on what looks to be a killer weekend in the Tampa Bay metro area.
By now y'all have seen the pics of the utter devestation on Long Island and the Jersey shore.
Many of us have ties to that area of the country
for me and Doug(I'm assuming because I have not spoken to him about this yet) this is hitting really hard for us as we both basicly grew up in the area(me on Long Island and Doug the Jersey shore). Many childhood and young adult memories are now gone(Seaside hights is basicly a total loss,my friend on Long Island lost his beach house on Fire Island,as its now an inlet there,we used to hang there for weeks at a time).
Seeing people I knew on FB and their updates......
However, and while what happened to them is horrible, this storm was overdue for the region.
While not officially a Cat 3 or 4(winds were clocked at 90 mph at the center at landfall, making it officially a Cat 1),the low central pressure of of 943 at landfall...well,Charley was at 941,and a 150 mph cat 4,and the destructive power was obviously of something that strong,so basicly this was that storm that was predicted and more so
Their last major destructive major hurricane was 1938..
Ours was in 1921 here in the Tampa Bay area, meaning that Long Island was more recently hit than us
In effect Tampa is about one of the last major population centers that is on the "overdue" list
This area seeming is blessed on a spot on the peninsula where the storms, while passing nervously close to us at times, because of how normal wind patterns are during hurricane season basicly make it very hard for a storm to make a direct hit on us,as we either catch the fringes,or more likely what is left of a storm comming across the peninsula in a weakened state from origional impact.
One day those "normal" wind patterns are going to betray us and like what happened with Sandy,or more likely with Charley, something unusual will happen in the upper winds and a storm will make a right hook right into the Tampa Bay metro area.Make no mistake our area has a storm with our name written on it,and probably sooner than later.
Unlike Long Island(where infrastructure is lacking severely to get supplys in due to the sub standard highway system that is not designed for a high volume of trucks or even freight trains),our area would probably not be waiting for so long for supplies as those poor people are(and unfortunately nobody heeded the warnings to top off gas in cars and take out as much $$ in cash as possible at the ATMs)..While we goof on the weather people in our area every time a storm comes near(and if anyone is educated on severe weather you can usually tell by the upper winds that its going to miss),its always wise to have everything in order in case a last second wind shift puts a storm in our area(like Charley did).I personally would rather a false alarm and posting meme's with the chair knocked over a day later than no warning at all..
For Every 10 Irenes there was a Sandy
For every 5 Issac's there was a Katrina.
Hopefully our amazing luck will continue well past our lifetimes, but the odds aren't with us.
Sorry for the long post gang, but living in a hurricane prone land and seeing somewhere not so much take a total ass kicking puts things in perspective.

Enjoy the great weather over there
Enjoy the Gators/Seminoles/Bulls
Have great shoots this weekend
Enjoy the things we have in our area to enjoy

The Gators survived a rough one!  It helps when you don't turn the. All over 6 times...and are able to force 4 on the other side.  The Gators have proved to have a pretty darn good defense this year which has kept them in the mix while their offense has been anemic.

Now, the Gators just have to hope that Ole Miss can come up with a big win against Georgia today...or Auburn next week.  Fingers are crossed!

@Chris, whenever a major disaster strikes I have wished to have the resources to go to the area and split my time there volunteering and photographing the areas but I just haven't been in the position to do so unfortunately.  Hopefully we don't have any more disasters for a loooong long time.  I think we have had enough in the last 20 years.

Plan: Get up at my regular time, take advantage of the time change by going into the office early and working an extra hour!

Reality: Usual time rolls around, Look at clock...Fuck that! It's WAY too early to be going into the office! I must have been crazy to think up this plan. (Goes back to sleep for another 40 minutes)

I hear ya...had a very late night watching Doug Martin run crazy for the Bucs, then a hot vampire shoot in Ybor.

Got up extra early, headed into the office, figured I'd impress my Sales Manager, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 0-dark-thirty. Strutted in whistling, looking fresh and fly....Sales Manager called in sick. Ha.

1 1/2 hours in line just to sign in and get ballot...
15 min to vote...
1 1/2 hours in line to get ballot scanned!

I finished and was out the door by 8:30pm....still over 100 in line.

There was plenty of drama already unfolding...
