I am 5'5 110 pounds. I am lean, but want to be leaner. I did dance for ten years, hence my bulker legs. I already go to the gym and do a lot of cardio. I do light weights, just for toning. But nothing extremely heavy. And that is only for upper body. I want to start Yoga, I think it may help lean me out a bit more. What are other people's experiences with it, and what kind of results have you seen? Thanks.

If you go to the run-of-the-mill yoga class at a fitness center, you are likely to be entering a class designed to be soothing, or improve flexibility in those who have injuries, etc. It probably will not meet your needs. Basic yoga is a wonderful thing, but as an exercise tool, it can be used for improving flexibility, balance, and keeping your muscles limber. There are power yoga-type sessions you can do that burn higher amounts of calories, and might promote additional fat loss based on those sessions being very intense. It's more fun and interactive than running on a treadmill.

Yoga asanas were not particularly created to be a weight-loss, or body reshaping tool. It will not necessarily help a person who is already fit lose weight, and the notion that it will "elongate" your muscles is bunk. I've been practicing for 15 years probably, and am short and stocky. I might be able to do full splits on both sides, balance my bodyweight on my elbows, and do headstands, but your muscle formation shape is largely genetic. It will not make a naturally thicker person look leaner, though it will make that person more flexible and have much better balance, not to mention the mental benefits. Power yoga classes, and very intense classes can provide a small amount of weight-loss, based on you burning a high amount of calories during those classes, but it will not reshape your muscles.

Yoga is wonderful. It not only improves strength,tone and flexibility, it helps with pain management as well.  I'm an LMT as my day job and I tell most of my clients to incorporate some type of yoga into their weekly routine.
If you can't make it to classes, try your TV cable network. I have a lot on my on demand section. They're many options to choose from (from beginners to advanced) plus, you have the privilege of being in your own home...if you fall over, no one will see you lol

Yoga isn't going to do it.  I'd try pilates on the machines (not mat classes).  They seemed to work for me and wish I could still afford it.

Yoga WILL do it...depending on the form and type of class. I've been doing YogaFit® for two years...toned, lost weight, gained flexibility...

What type of shape were you in before starting YogaFit though? The OP is already very slim, active, and appears to carry little body-fat as it is. If you had 10-15 pounds to lose, or were a bit overweight before starting the program, it was likely you lost weight due to having "room" to improve yourself, so to speak. For people are already very slim, fit and active, losing additional body fat, or "reshaping" muscles often requires intensive body-sculpting workouts with a trainer, and specialized diet habits.

Yoga is awesome.I don´t have much expiereience with it yet,but I find it great!
And I am starting to feel exersised.

You don't loose weight in yoga you can tone up your arms where machines camt get it and it will improve your cardio. many runners take yoga......


Yoga can improve your posture. I went from 5' 9 to 5' 10" from yoga.... I was doing it four time a week..... when the doctor clocked me in at 5' 10" I was suprised.

but you have to check out all the different yogas some are more challenging then others. If you are up to it try hot yoga its great for the skin....

It's many years I shoot Yoga (as soon as I have models involved in it) and I also organize photo-workshops about Natural Yoga. As you can see from my portfolio, I feel that the most "noble" kind of nudity it's that involved in "true" naturist Yoga classes and

Both yoga and Pilates have huge benefits.  Personally, I do both.  Although I do much more yoga than Pilates (about a 3 to 1 ratio).

I also find the two to really complement each other.  I'll also have typically stronger yoga practices the day after doing Pilates.

I regularly do yoga, and I like the Vinyasa Flow style.

The workout is tremendous, and I prefer it over most Yoga styles where you barely break a sweat.

You just need to take the moves seriously and try to do them correctly.  For this you need to go to a Yoga class with a good teacher. I'd never do Yoga in a Fitness center.
