Speaking of flags, when did the Brits change theirs? I noticed at the last Olympics they were using the cross of St. John instead of the union jack. What's up with that?

The Union Jack is the flag of United Kingdom. The St. George's Cross is the flag of England.
[edit] Ooops, a minute late. What electropleb said.

I see. But I've watched the Olympics since the 1984 games and always remember them raising the jack when they won. Last games, it was the cross instead. When did this policy change?

Did a bit of googling but every picture I can find of recent olympic wins for Great Britian it is the Union Jack.
As another poster indicated, they compete at the Olympics as Great Britain, not as the individual countries.
Do you've a link where the St. Gerorge's Cross was used?

England, N. Ireland, Scotland and Wales all have different flags. The red cross on white background is England's flag and the Union Jack is the British flag.
I don't know if the policy has ever changed. I have only ever known the St. George Cross to be used to represent England. The Union Jack would not have been used, for sure.
