Another question I have concerns a pale complexion, especially during the summer months. Is pale bringing sexy back? lol I'm light complected due to my Irish roots. I burn and turn back to white rather than tan. hmm I think its kinda sexy sometimes. Katy Perry is kinda pale and she is so pretty!

I love pale women and honestly i think when i snap a photo , the model looks alot better pale than tanned . I own a tanning salon and i used to be very pasty guy but now i have some color , but I think its sexy to be pale. also i think tans are to give you color not change your color .. for my photos i've taken of tanned girls . just looks off as the face is harder to tan so you can see the eye soar in photos

i agree with paul the photographer, some of the sexiest photos on MM are shot with pale complexioned women, look at dita von teese.

i just think you have to own it, if your going to be a pale model go the full one hundred and be the pale model with the porcelain skin and a milky body, good photography only works it you work it.

Sexiness really isn't defined by the colour, tone or shade or your skin.

+1

Skin color is only a tool, and how you use it determines how it is sexy.

To be honest, the kinda work I do (low light and mixed low light and flash) I almost prefer pale models.

Tan lines suck.

If you are fair complected, and you burn rather than tan, don't do it. The risk of skin damage and disease from tanning is not worth one photoshoot.Have you considered the spray tans if you must? Plenty of us fair skin shooters out here. Be safe, not sorry.

"Pale" clear skin is very elegant when the picture is taken to accentuate that asset.  It looks great on you!

Cheers

It is not my personal preference, however I have found that the models with pale complexion are among the most popular on my website.

From a technical standpoint, the only problem I have with pale skin is that I sometimes find it difficult to white balance, since it picks up very slight color casts. Tanned skin is a little more forgiving in that regard.

I never tan, I am pale all year round. I was at a workshop once and someone said I was "too white." And when I went to Miami last year 2 photographers refused to shoot with me unless I got a tan. I kindly told them that the only color I turn is red and that's not attractive. Besides those 3 photographers who seemed to have a problem with my pale complexion, everyone else seems to like it smile I stay out of the sun at all costs, I even walk around with a parasol in summer :p

A lot of my friend's make fun of me for not tanning and for going to such great lengths to stay out of the sun, but when we're older and they have leathery, dried out skin and look 5 years older than they are, I'll be the one with nice, smooth, healthy skin laughing at them!

I am SO PALE and I stay like that year round. I can't tan. I turn red, it changes to pink, and then back to pale again. That's what happens when I try to tan lol

I pretty much stay ghost white year round as well.  But I could get tan if I wanted to/had the opportunity to be outside more.

Honestly, I love being super pale. I think its pretty.  I'm proud to have very light skin.

You should embrace your skin tone, no matter what it is.

Try to avoid the sun.  For nude, implied, or even just "off the shoulder" dresses, tan lines aren't flattering. Burn lines even less so.

This.

I've shot models from VERY dark skinned to so pale it's almost translucent.  All can be sexy, or create fashion or art where sex appeal is irrelevant.  (well, at least with the art; fashion who knows?)

Most photographers that hire me do so because of my pale skin.  They say that it works well with the lighting and that it's easier to edit.  MUAs also love my skin because the colors really pop.  Tanning is more common in glamor modeling than any other genre.  Don't feel like you have to slather yourself in orange to get ahead, pale is  beautiful. smile

I like pale. smile

I'm a mix of Irish and Native American so my skin will tan sometimes.

I actually kind of hate it.

I personally don't mind looking a little more tan, but it's usually just from being outside so it's never even. I would rather have a pale, even skin tone. tongue

Anywho, no, pale isn't bad.

As long as you carry your skin tone well and can work it... don't let it bother you!

Im quite pale, with ALOT of freckles...if they all connected I would have the SICKEST tan. But I like my Casper-like complexion, gets me noticed more smile

I feel your pain. I don't tan either. I burn, peel and turn back to white.

I've given up trying to get a tan every summer and instead have just accepted that I'm white and always will be.

I know the feeling. My own mother makes fun of me for being so pale. She has a lot a Cherokee in her so she tans easy. I agree with the sun damage part. I don't want to look older than what I am when I'm 40. lol People tell me already I look about 17-18. I'm not complaining. big_smile

I love pale complexion personally, but as a marketer and photographer pale models are amazing because they stand out of the norm which is what you want when you want to attract newer and bigger clients or a bigger fan base. Things that are the norm. like tanned models, blonde, blue eyed, etc, its not as shocking as it was a female model being pale with natural red hair with hazle eyes. Also the natural look is coming back vs. the unnatural looks, slowly but surely, but it's on a good momentum right now as many very famous models are naturally beautiful instead of artificially made.

Ashleigh! I found another one of your threads completely by chance. And all because today I got my first burns of the summer. I was just trying to figure out a way to stay pale now that I'm doing shoots.

I don't know if it's popular but I think it's pretty. Pale skin just goes so much better with red lipstick(: I've always been awfully pale but I tan perfectly over summer.
