So my boyfriend wants to diet but he doesn't like vegetables or fish.


What diet would be good for someone who doesn't eat vegetables.

Fruit, whole grains, lean meat, exercise. Low intake of HFCS and saturated fat.

(I'm no dietitian, but it's pretty much what I try to do... as I don't like veggies myself)

It might be worth trying to find out **why** he does not like veggies or fish. In my experience, many folks don't like or hate things because they have never had them prepared well.

Makes sense to me. I always despised asparagus until someone, who knew what the hell they were actually doing in a kitchen, cooked it for me. I ate it (just to be polite) and it was **fantastic**.  Guess that's what I was trying to suggest. Maybe your BF has never had these dishes prepared well? Does he like spaghetti with red (traditional Italian) sauce?

Every time he has spaghetti he always ask if any chunks of tomato will be in it he won't eat if he can feel the chunks they have to be completely blended with no chunks. If he can't feel the texture he doesn't mind if vegetable was originally in it.

Like I can cook something with onion he doesn't mind the onion taste but it cannot have a piece of onion in it I have to drain it. Again because the texture is what  he can't get down.


the only vegetables that I know he likes is
raw carrots
Lettuce
cucumber
any other vegetable is off limits lol

He probably hasn't had vegetables that are cooked in a tasty way.

I hated vegetables growing up too, but it was because my mom prepared everything southern Appalachian-style, which was boiled to a pulp, and drenched in fat-back grease and vinegar. Gross.

When I moved out and learned to steam and saute vegetables, as well as how to dress them and eat them raw, I started loving vegetables.

If he doesn't like fish, lean chicken breasts, roasted in the oven with some pepper and herbs is a good alternative.

So there you have it. It appears that he is fine with the flavor of tomatoes, but not the texture. That gives you a major win. You can sneak so many different things into a good home made spaghetti sauce. In fact, I would bet if you made a list of every veggie he hates, you could sneak over half of them into the sauce and he would love it (hell, I have even used sweet potatoes or squash as a thickening agent).

THIS also v8 has some good juices which are cheaper and more plentiful.
Also I HATE veggies, I put cheese on all mine and it helps a little. or ranch.

Yep, my boyfriend didn't like salad, he had a salad in a resturant the other day and liked it, the difference? The salad had a nice dressing on it. Vegetables are not defined by a bit of manky lettuce or some soggy carrots on the side of your roast but a lot of people dont seem to realise that. There is massive variety in vegetables before you even consider the many different ways to prepare them.

Which texture, the texture of a courgette is nothing like a bit of celery or a mashed swede. A boiled carrot doesn't even have the same texture as a raw one.

Delicious but expensive.

Make smoothies at home. big_smile

You can you veggie juice, though it's not exactly the same (still better than nothing either), in combination with fruits and fruit juices.

I'll boil some things. I think the trick is to not over-cook. When I do corn on the cob, I'll get the water to a rolling boil and then drop the corn in the pot. As soon as the waters starts to boil again, out it comes. Nice and hot and crunchy :-)

Same thing with seafood. Most people overcook the living crap out of it. Scallops (about 1-2 min; shrimp = 'bout the same, and so on)

These are tasty, but ONE container has a many calories as a large snack, or small meal. You can easily consume a meal's worth of calories in a couple cups of fruit juice. I got addicted to those last fall, because they were delicious, and all the fruit sugar would give me a quick energy rush (quickly followed by a crash). I gained about 4 pounds in a month from drinking them too much. Not a big deal, but if your goal is to trim down, juice is something to be aware of.

Well, there's a diet that is nutritious and a diet that does not make one fat.

Not getting fat would be a diet that has the proper calorie balance regardless of what he eats.

Even with limited veggies, he could get more of his fat and protein through nuts, olive oil, etc. instead of red meat.   

Some of the texture issues may be addressed by how veggies are prepared and presented.  I've had veggie burgers, that have a very similar texture to meat for example.

My parents and my boyfriend always do this to me I am soo fussy, its so funny when my boyfriend makes food and he keeps asking me if I like it I can tell he's put fish or something else I really hate in it, it always tastes good but have the thought in the back of my head wondering what it is haha.

honestly...you can do Atkins without veggies. if you don't have veg on it, a multi-vitamin is probably a great idea.  but its almost entirely made of meat and fat otherwise.  one of my favorite atkins meals was a big undercooked burger (no bun, obvsly) with a ton of cheese melted on it, dipped in mayo. *waits for the vomiting to begin from half the people who read that* i also loved the fact that i could swing by in-n-out every day and have a 4x4 protein style, and it was totally on my diet. haha.

so long as you don't go batshit insane and you keep your calorie count reasonable...you can definitely lose weight on it.

Tell him to consult a doctor and, at their recommendation, a dietician.

Cutting out all vegetables removes some nutrients from the diet, that should otherwise be accounted for. Getting on a weight loss plan from his doctor is his best bet.

Or, he can do like most people and find some book by some person without formal medical or dietary training who lost weight doing *insert almost anything here*, and roll the dice that he doesn't mess up his body's natural balances of vitamins, minerals, etc.

Anorexics lose weight. They are horribly unhealthy. Just because it's effective in reducing weight, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

I feel the same way about fruit, but for some reason I don't have a problem with dried fruit. The best is unsulfured, unsweetened dried mango from trader joes. Lots of fiber helps you get full faster. I also like to make my own salad because I can choose what goes into it ( usually just spinach, carrots, some dried fruit, fish, and olive oil). Sometimes picky people are actually quite simple. If there's a few things he will eat, just try different combinations of that and keep it simple. It's a little boring but it might work.
