Notice: There are people sending me rude, uncalled for messages about images they feel violate the rules.
I don't mind (and expect) being sent messages about various contest issues, and possible rule violations. It's my job. I signed up for it, and accept the responsibility gladly. It's part of being a contest host, and I understand this.
However, when I am being accused of not giving a hoot, and allowing everything to slide, "who's checking this thing anyway, etc.", I find it uncalled for, rude, and insulting. I don't know if Tom put up with this nonsense, but I will not.
Let it be known that I monitor this contest at least ten times a day. I don't let any more than 90 minutes go by without looking at what's going on here, and I follow this schedule every day. Think about that for a minute. If any image is even remotely close to being questionable in terms of the rules, I get a second opinion from JoJo, who oversees all the contests, and take it from there. If it stays up, it was deemed acceptable. You are free to challenge the decision with higher powers if you disagree. If a rule-breaking image is posted in which nothing appears to be happening, it is because I haven't seen it yet, but rest assured, I will within an hour or so, at most.
So to put it succinctly, I am fair, and put a lot of time and effort into moderating the Pic of the Day. Checking into a website forum a dozen times a day, and having to be glued to a computer to perform a necessary task at precisely midnight, seven nights a week, 365 days a year, for free, is a thankless job. But I signed up for this, because I care very much about it, and want to help Model Mayhem the best I can. I am also a photography mentor, member of the LIST, and likely to be made a Top Drawer member this week. More responsibilities.
All I ask is for a little bit of respect. If you are concerned about an image, please contact me. I appreciate it. I don't care if I have to answer 50 messages a day, if they are not crass and rude in tone. I promise you all I will make sure rule-violating images are removed as soon as possible, if this action is appropriate - but please do not accuse me of not doing what needs to be done, because that is a falsehood, and an insult to the time I take to maintain this contest.
