This is the first and original edition of the
Animal Picture of the Day (APOtD) competition which is based off the
Picture of the Day - Original Edition was hosted by TR Willmitch and ran 872 pages. The
current edition is hosted by David Hirsh.
Enter your best work and vote for your favorite image! The
Animal Picture of the Day winners will be posted at the top of the thread and proceed to the
Winners' Gallery.

Please make every effort to post your entry by Noon MM Time when all entries officially end with no entries for a given day counted before or after entry times.

End-of-day banner is dropped, with no votes for a given day counted before or after voting times.
2. NO MATURE IMAGES.
a. No mature (18+) images or links as defined by Model Mayhem's mature image guidelines found here.
b. This is at the discretion of Model Mayhem Moderators and the
Animal Picture of the Day staff.
c. The
Animal Picture of the Day (APOTD) staff reserves the right to disqualify any image at their discretion and without explanation.
d. The APOtD is viewable by the public. If your entry is mature or questionable then you might be sent a private message requesting that you remove the image using the forum's
Edit command. Otherwise the entry may be disqualified and removed from view.
e. Please consider Model Mayhem's
18+ Pic of the Day competition for images ineligible for the
Picture of the Day - Original Edition or
Pic of the Day. The
18+ competition is found
here.
3. ENTERING
a. A given individual may enter only
ONE IMAGE per day.
b. You may only enter an image that you were directly involved in creating as the photographer, model, makeup artist, stylist, Photoshop wizard, or other creative-team member.
c. Photograph Editing: Only minor post work of original images are acceptable such as exposure adjustments, burning, dodging, color correction, cropping, toning and textures. Stitched or layered images that combine or overlay images are NOT acceptable. Any changes to the original Photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will render the Photograph ineligible and disqualified. This contest is for the merits of photograph composition and subject rather than digital manipulation of the composition or subject.
d. If the copyright holder requests that an entry be withdrawn from competition then the image and any votes it received will be disqualified.

Image size is to be:
- minimum 800px width or length
- maximum 1080px width
f.
Subject - Images may be of any subject as per the stated APotD theme to include humans and animals, or just animals which are not prohibited by Model Mayhem's
mature image guidelines.
For the purposes of this competition "animal" is defined any animal, bird, reptile, insect, etc., in the "animal kingdom" so-to-speak. Individual themes may have descriptions that entitle broader range definitions with the idea of the theme or animal family in mind, for instance a "Cat" theme may include kitty cats and lions, a "Dog" theme may include doggy's and wolves, an "Insect" theme may include insects and spiders, a "Horse" theme may include horses and zebras, a "Fish" theme may include a fish and dolphin, etc. Broad range definitions are intended to allow more images to be inclusive and are at the discretion of the APotD Staff. Unless specifically stated otherwise in the "theme" for the day, images are to be of animals that are alive, for instance not dead, toys, or stuffed animals.
g.
IF YOU ENTER YOU ARE EXPECTED TO VOTE to support the success of the competition. If you do not vote your entry may be disqualified.
h. The day's entries begins at 9:00 PM MM Time (12:00 AM Midnight Eastern Standard Time) and the day's entries end at 12:00 Noon MM Time (3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time).
i. The precise beginning of entries marked by the red and green banner and may vary a little here and there.
j. No entries for the day are qualified after 12:00 Noon MM Time.
k. The APOTD staff reserves the right to disqualify entries at their discretion.
4. POSTING
a.
TEXT IN POSTS. The posts are for entries and votes. No unnecessary or random comments, discussions, debates, or critiques. Talk is to be kept to an absolute minimum, filling these pages with qualified photographs and not dialog. Occasional and brief friendly comments are o.k. No narratives, advertising or spam. No rule, entry or voting discussions or comments are to be posetd. (See Rule 10)
b. If your image has been posted for more than a few minutes then DON'T change it. All entries shall be posted as images and not as links.
c. Please post your image only
once on the day that you enter it. Contestants are
not permitted to
BUMP images.
Such images will be disqualified.
5. 15 DAY RULE. Do not re-enter any image that has appeared in the
Animal Picture of the Day during the past
15 days or the image will be disqualified. If an image is entered for a competition that was not validated the image is not subject to the 15 day rule.
6. VOTING.
a. When voting please use the word
vote, so you don't confuse your vote with just a comment such as
"This is cool" or
"I really like this one".
b. Vote on the merits of the photograph.
c. A given individual may
VOTE only once per day.
d.
YOU ARE EXPECTED TO VOTE IF YOU ENTER to support the success of the competition. If you do not vote your entry may be disqualified.
e.
DO NOT VOTE FOR YOUR OWN IMAGE. Individuals that participated in the creation of an entry may not vote for that image. These individuals include photographers, models, makeup artists, stylists, and Photoshop wizards. Such votes will be disqualified.
f. The day's voting begins at 12:00 Noon MM Time (3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time) and ends at or shortly after 9:00 PM MM Time (12:00 AM Midnight Eastern Standard Time).
g. Votes placed before 12:00 Noon MM Time may be disqualified.
h. The precise end of voting is marked by the red and green banner and may vary a little here and there.
i. No votes for the day are counted after the banner is dropped.
j. Votes counts are listed below the winner(s) of the day and in alphabetic order.
k. The APOTD staff reserves the right to disqualify votes at their discretion.
7. NO VOTE STACKING!!! In all fairness to contestants and others, please do not impose upon others to vote for your entry. Do not solicit votes from friends, colleagues or other MM members. Do not vote for friends, colleagues or other MM members just because you know them. Vote on the merits of the photograph. If the
Animal Picture of the Day staff receives a complaint or senses abuse then
an investigation will be made whereby suspect votes will be disqualified and entries may even be disqualified.
8. WINNERS.
a. Winners will be posted on the front page for the day.
b. Winners will be posted in the Winner's Gallery!
c. An image that has previously won
First-place in any
Animal Picture of the Day contest cannot be entered or re-entered in this competition. Such images are automatically disqualified.
d. There shall only be a single winner or two-way tie. There must be at least two
qualified images entered to vote on in order to validate a competition and to declare a winner.
e. TIES: For any day which is three-way or greater there shall be a tie-breaker vote by all voters who did not vote for any of the tied images. The tie breaker will be sent by the APOTD Host via private message and the voters will reply as such. The APOTD Host shall publish the results showing the first round vote counts and the tie breaker vote counts. In the event the tie is not broken by vote, the APOTD staff shall determine the winners in the fairest way possible.
9. VIOLATIONS. The
Animal Picture of the Day staff may temporarily suspend or permanently ban from the contest any individual who flagrantly violates contest rules or is disruptive. Such individuals may not enter their work, have others enter their work, or vote in the contest. This may be done without prior notice.

Who is entitled to display a Winner’s Badge?
The person that submitted the winning image on a particular day is permitted to display the Winner’s Badge on their profile page.
If the photographer submitted the winning image the model (the MUA, the Stylist and so on) is ALSO permitted to display the Winner’s Badge.
If the model submitted the winning image the photographer (the MUA, the Stylist and so on) is ALSO permitted to display the Winner’s Badge.
In other words all those that took an active part in the creation of the winning image may display the Winner’s Badge.
Who can NOT display the Winner’s Badge?
You must have taken an active part in the creation of the winning image.
Well, I loaned the model $20 for gas – NOT an active part
I rented the photographer my studio - NOT an active part
I’m the model’s manager - NOT an active part
I was the model’s escort – (shudder) NOT an active part

To post an entry to the
Animal Picture of the Day (APOTD) competition:
Go to the image in your MM port, and underneath it (provided it is not an 18+ image) you will see this: MM Forum Code | Image Tag | Raw Link
Choose the first one: MM Forum Code
It will give you a bunch of code. Copy it ALL. Go to the forum and paste it where you want it to go. It will look something like this:
.... except, it will all be black text. In the example above, everything is changed to red that you will need to remove before hitting "post".
