Apparently, finding models is a lot more difficult than we thought:

I am going to be even more grateful next time I am able to line up a shoot!

Apparently we need to work on upping the number of skilled "Model makers: wood" so that we can churn out some more models...

It should be easier with the internet but somehow it's become harder than it once was. I think a lot of potential models don't want to be splashed on the internet.

It said average income for a model is  $42,560

Full time is 40 hours for 52 weeks a year 2,080 hours.

That's about $20.46 an hour.

Guess I'm over paying.

Modeling isn't a 9-5 job with regular hours; for fashion/commercial modeling, you get a few big jobs a year, and work as many smaller jobs as possible.

I'm an art model, and usually get a few decent sized jobs a year ($600+), then spend the majority of my time life modeling (i.e. non-photographic) in a few markets; pay for that varies between $14/hr to $50/hr.

Put another way- that average could be two 20,000 campaigns and a bunch of small jobs.

I think they are talking about agency models who actually earn a living.

I think they must be talking about a specific kind of modeling, too.  My regular job is as a figure model.  True, when people ask me what I do, I say I'm a FIGURE model (I don't just say I'm a model, because the connotations are different).  But yeah--I model for a damn living (and man, I WISH I made 42,000 a year!).  Figure modeling is modeling, it's just a specific kind of modeling.

Also, both actors and models do television commercials--how do they separate who defines themselves as what?

And are they counting glamour models?  Models in the adult industry?

Considering they seem to think a model is only a real model if you've seen a billboard with them on it, probably not.

American Apparel often uses their own shop girls in their advertising.  I guess girls who work at American Apparel are more "real" models than, well, real models.

If the average includes tfcd shoots as $0/hr, that figure makes sense.

And who models 40 hours a week?

It's contract work. Breaking modeling jobs down hourly isn't valid.

Model A and Model B go on the same go-sees (let's say 4 in January, 20 in February, 10 in March, etc). So, they do the same amount of hours to find work, more or less. Model A books 3 major jobs in February, and that's it for the year. Model B books 10 smaller jobs throughout the year. Model A makes $65,000 for the year, Model B makes $20,000 for the year. Their "average income" is roughly $42,500.

I'm guessing for this statistic they polled active agency models.

I think we have more than enough wooden models.  Some more expressive ones might be nice, though.

You mean the ebay ones that the delivery man leaves at your door.
