I should probably start doing that, I have only taken a cursory look at any schedule.
Fur sure... book Brianna for a one on one shoot anytime on the cruiseboat (other than during the groupshoot)... her super low one on one rate is only $20 for a half hour... contact her for details...
Thanks... and actually it IS exclusive access... and the $20 bus fare should cover 'round trip'...
I'm sending that message out to everyone this evening... glad you like the location... FREAKIN PLACE ROCKS HUH! I may get brave and post the details on this amazing place alittle later. I just don't wanna give any underhanded thread stalkers a chance to sabotage this location. An action like that could ruin it for all of us and we DONT need that...
Transition: Rather than do another post I'm intentionally shifting topics to discuss something different--but tangentially related--figures.
Since I like figures, I did some OTHER calculations, but hesitate to share them for fear of being stung! LOL...and I don't want to compete with anyone for nerd. :-)
Few would disagree with me that on average a conservative estimate of the caliber of each model would place her in the top 5%. [It's more like in top 1% IMHO, but I want to be conservative].
There are approximately 30 models ATM.
The probability of a group of this calibre and size appearing randomly is conservatively estimated at 1/(20^30).
This is significantly more than 6 standard deviations above the norm!
These calculations have not been audited but the bottom line is that Gary has orchestrated a highly exceptional expedition!
The term "embarassment of riches" comes to mind. I modify to an "embarassment of beauty!"

Thank you. You don't know the half of it. I'm self censoring like crazy [pun intended].
I used to work for FedEx because I like flying and I am very time oriented. :-)
Glad to see that I'm not the only one--for the record, the clock was Ira's work!
Another transition: examining another potential hidden cost of achieving the prime directive--blood donor time out.
I share this because it might be of concern/interest to some. Particularly the medical folks amongst us.
If you visit some countries, or certain parts thereof, a potential donor would be eliminated from consideration as a safe blood donor until they had completed a year without adverse impact (e.g. no malaria). When I went to donate blood I inquired if a visit to Mexico would adversely impact ones eligibility. I looked at the color-coded charts that the CDC provided and found that our ports of call do NOT impact our eligibility to donate blood! Even if it did, it wasn't going to change my decision to go to Mexico! Are you kiddin'? I know that blood can help save lives but...
Bottom line: going where we're scheduled to go in Mexico doesn't adversely affect our ability to donate blood! :-)
You are allowed to bring a 750mm bottle of wine or champaigne on the cruise from each stop and per person and a case of water they just don't let you bring the hard stuff with you. They want to make money.

Might be kinda cool at night with the ocean in the background!
Just a thought!
Very cool is what I'm thinking Yani!!
Trina was talking about bringing her black lights and I know Jin n Tonic has done some of these as well. Could make for some amazing captures.
One of my favorites of Trina's is:
Now imagine something crazy like this with the moonlight ocean behind it!
The 10/1 Catalina cruise is at 5 photographers, 8 or 9 models. While each cruise will probably have a completely different vibe, both should be an utter blast for the participants!

Photographers who are looking at this thread, time is running out and more models want to come. I think it's decision time, sitting on the fence can seriously hurt and missing out on the experience will make you wish you made a quicker decision.
Just my thoughts but we already have a cast of approx 60 attendees so not matter what all will enjoy this experience.

I am not talking about a lot of gear, but maybe a compact stand and umbrella and maybe some filters?
I will be driving to terminal. I live 1.5 hrs away. A light stand and umbrella would be easy for me to bring. I imagine the items would need to be sent back to your home after cruise. Are we talking about UPS?

You may want to see if UPS can deliver to the ship. Only need your cabin number I would guess. Worth a call to Carnival to find out. Craig

DO NOT bring an umbrella... they will SERIOUSLY set sail in the wind and get destroyed on both the ship and at the beach. Bring small beauty dish or speedlight with Lumiquest Softbox attached... much more portable and operates better in windy conditions.
Here's a shot of Roxy in the pool using only a Vivitar 285 strobe (shot at 1/2 power to conserve batteries) attached to a small aluminum tripod and triggered with a pocket wizard... great lightweight portable lighting with a pretty strong guide number...
Here's Sacha on the cruiseship... same lighting configuration.

Great shots Gary, do you recommend any certain Lumiquest model? It looks like they have 5 sizes, Mini, Standard, II, III and LTp ?

Gary, were these shot late in day? How far was the light from model?
I see Lumiquest makes their larger speedlight softboxes with a "cutout" so they don't block light meter sensor. Also it seems they have a denser patch in center to act like a beauty dish. I have two sizes of the $10 Fotodiox softboxes and they work well. I imagine the Lumniquest products have more even lighting.
This sounds Awesome! I talked to the cruise lines today and they still have rooms. I'll start looking for a model to sponser. If any model need a sponser feel free to message me directly, it's easy to miss a model here and there due to the number of pages on this post.
Hi all, just wanted to once again notify everyone of my availability for the cruise. I am still very interested in attending. My schedule is open and I am prepared and ready to attend at a last minutes notice in the event that perhaps someone's model cancels or if a photographer just decides last minute they just gotta have another amazing and reliable model who has no restrictions, passport ready, and a seasoned traveler as well as model. I have references available upon request, I've worked a lot with Gary (select models) and am confident he will be able to give insight to my hardworking and fun spirited work ethic to anyone interested. Get at me.

Hal,
You don't have to check but the last three or four pages of this thread. There are at least five or six that have still shown interest. I already have two in my cabin and wish I could squeeze in a third!!
