How about my 3 weakest images?

Then I will replace those with probably even more weak ones.   big_smile

Would really appreciate honest critique.  What I should cut, what I need to include and general feedback. I'm still learning and I'm thinking of aiming towards fitness (I've got a shoot in the works and will hopefully have it up in a couple weeks! smile ) Thank you for doing this!

Your studio work is far stronger than your outdoor work. The last four photos in your portfolio look like they were taken by someone else. However I really like the feel of them, and would like to see you progress it to the quality of your studio shots.

I have seen a lot of people saying they don't like this, but I do:

Actually only 2 people have said they dislike that photo. Most think it is my best.

Thanks for taking the time.

Caught up - anyone else?

Do you have a question you wish someone would answer honestly, a new image you want an opinion on, or do you just want a full critique of your portfolio or bio?

You tell me what you want, how detailed you want it, and how harshly you like your truth delivered. I will answer or critique as you request, but may throw in a few side comments if something catches my eye.

The top two rows of your portfolio seem far stronger than the rest. I like your implied nudes a lot, and this:
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110407/08/4d9dda44e4ef0_m.jpg
is really cool.

I would definitely get rid of these:

http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pi … 1#21141481 18+
And possibly these:

(It seems overly posed)

(You chopped a hand off, and it seems out of  focus)

Actually, most of of the stuff in the bottom three rows could go without hurting your portfolio, the top stuff is so much better.

This is kind of cool though:
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/100919/08/4c962d2caa1da_m.jpg
I wouldn't get rid of it just yet.

I'm not the person to ask for technical advice, so I'm not too sure what to tell you on how to improve. It looks like you are on the right track already! Just make sure to remember not to chop off hands. smile

I can't believe I made page 2!
Your three weakest, as requested:

Well, I am curious to know why you have a folder labeled old stuff with only two images that could easily be integrated into the rest of your portfolio. I  like this:

These two:

Should not both be in your portfolio. I like the first better myself.

Photos I feel are a lesser quality than the rest:

Good luck on the fitness shoot. smile

Something I told a model earlier that you might be interested in:

-Practice emoting
-Find poses that inspire you and practice in front of a mirror. Figure out which angles flatter you and which don't.
-Pay attention to your hands. Don't make claws. Keep them graceful. They can make or break a photo.
-Learn to identify what makes a good photo and what doesn't. When looking for your portfolio, you need to be able to spot technical issues that will turn people off of the photo, even if you look good in it. At the beginning it's ok to have photos where people think "It's a shame he cut her hand off", but once you get more experience you want to show photographers that you aren't going to post their worst photos from the shoot if they work with you, just because you like the way your stomach looked.

First, you don't need 140 photos. Most models prefer to see 15-20 of your best, and having that many images can be detrimental to you. Also, we really don't want to see a folder for each model. Pick the best one or two images from each set and either split into folders by genre, or not at all.

I went through all your albums, and keeping one or two photos from most of the albums I think you could easily have a much stronger portfolio with the following:
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110621/20/4e0163af6e337_m.jpg

Yes I did used to shoot film but I feel that the shots are part of my overall vision and style. I have already weeded some shots out of my port and am working on dropping some more. Thanks for the input.

Did you used to shoot film? A lot of your work from the fashion and nude albums seems like film. It almost appears to be shot by a completely different photographer! I like it a lot, but if you aren't shooting it anymore, I don't think you should have it in your portfolio, or at least put it in it's own folder.

Garlic bread is always an essential accompaniment to lasagna and/or spaghetti.

Pizza, I normally have so much of, no room for garlic bread...  (but garlic bread is SO yummmy)

What type of modeling do you think I'm best at? Any ideas of what styles/looks I should add to my port? Also, I know I have too many photographs but it's always hard for me to choose which ones to get rid of- Can you tell me which ones you think need to go?

And please be gentle. Thank you!

I still have a soft spot for it. smile

I feel like I am not in a space to critique you, because you do something very different from just photography. I can look at a photograph and see distractions and negative space, and tell you what I do and don't like. But you take photographs and turn them into pieces of art, to the point where I feel that they are no longer photographs, but something more akin to paintings.

Take these, for example:
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120310/19/4f5c1c37c949f_m.jpg
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/27502850
As a photograph I would hate these, and I expected to when I opened the thumbnails. I don't like digital manipulation that much. I love these. They don't feel like manipulated photographs to me. They feel like artwork.
(My only complaint is the flowers around your Venus seem a little too bright. In the original the were a very delicate light pink, and yours seem a bit overpowering to me.)

What I am trying to say is that you manage to make something wonderful where most would turn out horribly cliche and unattractive images. Your pin-up is delightful, and I love this:
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110203/09/4d4ae4d95b719_m.jpg

So, please, keep doing what you do, and striving to make it better, because I really love following your work.

Thank for the detailed reply, much appreciated! smile

You are very pretty!

I am glad you are looking to get rid of some work, as I think you could have a very strong portfolio if you trim it down. Right off the bat, I think the last three rows of your portfolio could go. You have much better work in your portfolio.

Looking through your portfolio, I see some photos that show you off beautifully, and a lot that don't do you justice. I think your portfolio should consist of:

http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pi … 4#23871184 18+
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pi … 1#23871201 18+

That gives you a good range of portraits, fashiony stuff, boudoir, nudes, and bondage. As for what I think you should add, I'd love to see more conceptualized work, and perhaps some more dramatic makeup work. Just remember to keep working with good photographers, and only add the very best photos to your portfolio.

Right now, it looks like you're good at everything you do. Your strongest work seems to be the boudoir and nudes I linked above. The bondage photos are my favorites though, I like the creativity that went into them.

Hi there! You are very pretty, and have a good look for this. You are slim and look tall in your photos, which is helpful at 5'5".
Take out the snapshots, especially the entire third row. Work with as many good photographers as you can, but don't make the mistake of thinking that a shoot with a really bad photographer is better than no shoot. You shouldn't be too picky with photographers at this point, but being too indiscriminate can also be a problem.
If you'd like to ask me specific questions, feel free to. With just a general critique however, I am afraid I can't be as detailed as I was with others, because right now your photos show raw material rather than posing skill. That's not bad- it's what is expected at this stage. The next step is to start practicing poses, which I already see starting to happen, and get experience and better photos.
In case you missed them, I have given these tips elsewhere in the thread:

I need to do a good cull of photos

Right now, I think getting rid of these three would be best:

I think you have a good portfolio, but would love to see it bumped to the next level as you continue to work with better and better photographers. The Ariel cosplay project sounds really cool, good luck.

Do more like this! I would work with this photographer again if you can.

Your emoting appears to be wonderful. Use that and come up with conceptual work to showcase it. At this point, what your portfolio needs is for you to keep shooting more, and work with the best photographers you can find.

I can't wait to see more from you. smile

Hi! I'm sorry, I don't know anything about monologues, so I'm not going to critique it for you.

However, I think these are the best in your portfolio:

thank you!

Lela, I have loved your work since I first saw it over a year ago, and am thrilled to have the chance to give my opinion.

You are stunning, and I think you have a lot of potential. I would love to see you cut down your portfolio to the very best, and continue adding variety to it.

Your strongest:

And maybe this if you're looking at commercial work:
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110629/00/4e0acfa87a277_m.jpg

You have a lot of images that look the same, a lot with the top of your head cut off, and with one eye covered by hair. While that look works for you, you are absolutely stunning with the hair out of your face. Also, you have a lot of headshots. I'd love to see more full body.

What I would definitely get rid of:
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120326/23/4f716023ed974_m.jpg
Blurry and out of focus.
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/111229/00/4efc21f07297f_m.jpg http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/111229/00/4efc21ef7e4b6_m.jpg
The lighting isn't flattering at all.
http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110919/06/4e77476988ca2_m.jpg
While I like the attempt at a different pose and style for you, this doesn't match the quality of the rest of your portfolio, and doesn't show you well.

Do you have a question you wish someone would answer honestly, a new image you want an opinion on, or do you just want a full critique of your portfolio or bio?

You tell me what you want, how detailed you want it, and how harshly you like your truth delivered. I will answer or critique as you request, but may throw in a few side comments if something catches my eye.

llama

OK, I so I am going to be updating and cutting down my bio quite a bit tonight, so you can skip that part. I have been on quite an extended hiatus, due to the passing of my mother. Before that I will admit I didn't have the opportunity to work with the best photographers. That being said, I still love many of my shots, but I am fully aware that some are just filler and need to go. I am working now on finding better quality photographers, and doing an almost complete overhaul of my port. I am interested in which, if any, of the existing shots should stay. Feel free to be as harsh as you deem necessary, I believe I can handle it. Maybe a few tears will be involved, but whatever. Lol. I need to hear the truth. Sooo, if you have time, can you please tell me which ones are worthy of staying, and which are absolutely dragging down my port. Thank you in advance!
