It's better in ways that you can have 99 photo's (without paying a membership fee) along with other things that MM makes you pay for...
However NOBODY is on it (I'm on it!) and it get's pretty boring.
I guess it's just a better way to get yourself out there to a different audience.

maybe maybe not. different management so who knows how they will handle it. you can try reporting
I used it as a secondary site for a while but the traffic rate is very low both on the main page and profile pages. You can put an announcement on the main page and it might not be knocked off for several hours.
It is a spin off site from One Model Place trying to mimic Model Mayhem. Stick with MM, many imitators have tried to copy the MM
layout, with little success.

This says it all. An OMP branch with few leaves.
But, it's free........

They didn't steal the design - they bought it. It is available for sale.
There was actually a time - and it still may be happening - that they said they could directly import your MM page onto their site if you gave them your password.
Yes, you read that correctly. They asked for your password...
One of the folks who started it was an infamous MM troll/drama queen/troublemaker who eventually got kicked off.
The fact that she was part of the group that bought the MM template and couldn't come up with their own design pretty much says it all.
I'm sure it was her attempt to show up MM and it failed miserably.

Correct. After I saw that "importing process," I said no thank you. Over and out. I'll live with my 15 photos!
I let them import it, then changed my password here. 100 free pics. Same membership number. Not so bad. I didn't investigate the ownership, just used what they had to offer.
OMP had some harsh words about MM when MM first started. I shrug it off and just use the tools that make themselves available. iStudio has a great number of freebie pics, yes, but ModelMayhem has the traffic and activity to make it count as of right now.

is it another site like this?
If you or he has an OMP account it is possible that he shot with you under a different name there, as all OMP members were automatically added to istudio unless they opted out.
I opted out, but they added me anyway.
AS NUMEROUS people have mentioned, it's owned by One Model Place and as with any modeling/photography site, it has its good points, and its weak points. VERY low commenting ratio, but if you're just trying to get your name/images out to the Internet, and not concerned with "numbers" its worth the time. They can transfer you MM portfolio over within a few minutes, or you can go through the entire process and build a completely new portfolio ~ m'

Why did they have to go and do that...

The site wasn't built by OMP, it was purchased by them, not to long ago if I remember right. It looked the same the day they bought it that it does today as far as I know.
OMP also owns models.com if I'm not mistaken, which is a more fashion oriented type site with links to just about every legit agency out there.

But MM is superior by far.
I'm on it too. But there are things they do actually hurt themselves. Like good coders making stupid decisions; random generated password protection just to tag, message, and invite friends? It's a pain in the butt, or stupid and dumb. Especially when that doesn't work most of the time. No wonder nobody goes there. I posted this concern on their site related forum, still not word from the mods there.
This caught my eye right off....about Istudios.com
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How is iStudio affiliated with Modelmayhem?
We are not. We use a similar interface, iStudio is a service of iStudio.com (BVI) Ltd., initiated by photographers that got frustrated by how they were treated at MM. We are aiming to become the BEST modeling site on the web, without the limitations of other sites (i.e. limit to less than 20 pictures on free accounts)

Have you also noticed the account numbers are in random order - not in the order people joined? The numbers are also often several numerals - which give the impression that the site has many, many more members than they actually do.

Nope. not possible. Considering i only have MM. And i looked at the guys photos he has on istudio... i have NEVER seen his work before. i reported him.. at least i think i did.. maybe i just unknowingly spammed my email by doing that.

I had a free page on OMP. They talked me into buying more of a page. I did for a year. Turned out not to be a good deal. So I said "no thanks" to the renewal and figured I'd return to the free page (four or five pics). They said, no, you can't go to that home again. Pay or leave. So I left.
Now you're telling me that OMP, by extension, is letting me have 100 pics for free that I can link to to show in forum posts and be open to folks who want to see more of my stuff? Cool. I'll consider it a nice karmic turn.

Hahahaha!
IMO only, OMP is a joke, as is iStudio. Models.com? Who DAT? Lol! Model Insider has a wicked interface, is very at-homeish and incredibly aesthetically appealing. And it *never crashes*!!! However, I believe that's due to their one glaring problem, and where MM beats the crap right out of them so hard it comes out their noses: Active Membership-levels Free BBcode, more extensive than the stuff here. Albums. More photo-slots. Basically, a Premium membership...for nuthin' But what I said holds very true: I drop-in there once every few weeks, although I've got email notifications as I do here. I hear...crickets
This says it all. An OMP branch with few leaves.

The fact of this site being free is not necessarily a good thing. How will they support their bandwidth if they have a very sudden growth? By flooding users with ads and pop-ups? By limiting the options and asking people to pay?
My take is, if you have to copy others, it's just not your thing, so don't try.
OP has taken the time and trouble to attack MM in his user profile introduction as well. First rule of success is promote your achievements, not attack the competition, in my opinion he's wasting the opportunity of his profile to share grievances about MM.

You have the right..as that person to do ..to belly ache about whatever...don't you?

The template that was for sale (which I do not know if iStudio used) was based on Tyler's original design (without his permission). Tyler hand-wrote all the code for the site. He did not use a template.
