Canon Japan just announced that the battery grip BG-E11 wont start shipping until the end of May.
I've lost all confidence in anything Canon. It's one delay after another and when they do get it together enough to actually ship a previously announced product it has defects.
They've played down the light leak issue in the 5D III, as have many others, but of course the resale value on the two batches produced that have the problem get cut way down, so those of us holding them get screwed (if the 6th digit of your serial number is a 1 or 2 you have a defective camera). They previously announced a release date of the last week of April for the BG-11 battery grip and I sure as hell wouldn't have bought the camera if I knew it wasn't going to be until June before I got the grip. The body is tiny and very very very awkward to shoot vertical especially if you're used to making adjustments from the battery grip. So besides shooting for fun for two days, and having a IS vibration issue that was keeping me from getting a sharp focus, my 5D111 sits in a box waiting on a battery grip that should have been ready to ship at the same time as the camera. And another thing that pisses me off is that the 5DIII that I was able to demo from Canon had a battery grip already mounted and there was no indication from the rep that it would be months before it would be available.
It's been a while since Canon didn't completely botch a release date or a product.

where have you been. canon had there fair share of issues but they have a canon suport that is steller hence why many photographers and video people use them. they have a fast turn around and easy to work with. Just great overall costumer service.

Sell it all and buy Nikon gear. That will give you new things to be disappointed about.
I have had great luck with Canon gear, I have had great luck with Nikon gear.
I have 60 year old cameras made by companies that are no longer in business that could use a servicing but still work great.
Certainly I have owned a piece of crap here and there as well and yes I bitched about it. So go for it.

Bitching about gear disappointment.
I hated my battery grip on my 5d. I sold them both, too big and stupid. I am 6'3" with large hands but I like a camera that does not encumber me. I left the 5d sitting at home.

Wow, you complain about the littlest things..
You can't shoot with out a battery grip?
It feels awkward?
So, you refuse to shoot with out the battery grip?
Unbelievable...
The *only* reason I care about having the battery grip now is because I want the RRS L-plate for my 5DIII and don't want to buy non-gripped L-plate version now (but I just might and sell it later when the BG-E11 comes out).
But that's not stopping me from using the 5DIII. I didn't spend $3500 on a camera to not use it.

So you know that for sure? I'm impressed... I can't tell the future half as well..

You should send me your 5DmkIII I'll make sure it's disposed of correctly.
Of course there are issues. There are issues with every new camera. When a new camera comes out, there are those who jump onto the bandwagon as quickly as they can to be one of the first. I wait a few months and place my order after the bugs get worked out.
I have an issue with anyone that knocks any of the camera makers because a new product has a few bugs. With the sophistication of new cameras today, I would b eamazed if they didn't have a few glitches.

I would sell all your Canon gear and go with Nikon.
How much are you asking for the 5D III???... You are right.. you will never get what you paid for the 5D III... Cut your losses while you can... I'll give you $3,000... PM if interested.

Totally agree. It's simply impossible with time / resources to catch everything.
If that were required, nothing would ever be launched. Even space ships and planes and ships have bugs!

Your points about the grip are valid, but the lightleak is not much of an issue. It has to be pitch black for it to be a factor. In normal lighting or even low lighting it will not be big enough to make a difference in the exposure.
If what you're saying is true about the value of the early batches, that could be great news for people who want one but can't afford it.
