I took a picture for a band, and they want to use it for a billboard. I dont have the photoshot knowledge to do what they want me to do. They hung a white sheet outside and stood in front of it, but they were holding things, and different parts of there legs ar outside of the white background. They want me to make the background white, and to crop it. I can obviously crop it, but I am having a hard time making the background white. I just dont know how to use the select tool properly, or maybe I should be using the background eraser tool. I dont know, and I dont have the time to figure it out, they need the picture asap, they actually needed it yesterday. It was all last minute. Anyway, if anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. Post your email address here and I will email it to you. Thanks so much to anyone who wants to help
Ok, this is rather lame attempt, but I am not (nor do I claim to be) a retoucher.
If they are going to hang this as a billboard... I would seriously consider reshooting at higher res and RAW. But that is just me.
It sounds like you are getting help on this particular file, so I thought I'd give you a little general help. One of the very best things that happened to me in my career was another photographer insisting I learn to use the pen tool. I had no understanding of how limited my skills where by not having this one ability. (not saying clipping with it is the only way, just the one I can always count on, as I have pretty good drawing skills. Always another way in PS)
Here's a pretty good tutorial that will take you from the basics (what the heck is this) to using it to clip out a selection in a photo. Once you've got a good path, changing backgrounds is much easier.
