Hi everyone,

I have been an agency signed fashion model for a little under a year now in New York. Don't get me wrong, Ive received some amazing jobs and editorials-but I was just wondering if it is normal for a fashion model to not be booking jobs, lets say every week to two weeks during their first year?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with NY market, but for as far as I know, it's quite normal to only book 10 or 20% of the castings. I guess that if you are still living from it and not struggling, you're doing quite fine wink

Most MM members aren't fashion models so don't be surprised if you don't receive a lot of feedback from your thread. You should look how other models from your agency are doing and ask them!

All the best,

X.

Yes, 10-20% is normal in NY. Of course there are those amazing llamas who get requested for and book just about everything they go out for, but 1-2 jobs per week sounds about average.

That said, I am pretty sure we don't go to the same castings at all! Hopefully some other younger fashion girls here in NY will chime in?

Actually I have found that the first year is critical to establishing a pace for llamas.  The agency will never be more excited than at the start of your relationship.  After that, a hot editorial or test shoot can get them excited again, but if after a while you are not booking anything regularly you need to figure out what is going on.  It is easy to fall to the bottom of the pile especially with editorial llamas.

I have also found that not keeping on top of testings or being willing to go to third markets can also affect your "hotness" as far as clients and relevance.  The longer you allow for your career to under perform the older you get and the less you can do about it.  Keep in mind that there are seasons and economic conditions to take into consideration when you make an honest assessment.

This is my first year as well, and your post could gave been written by myself.

But, things have really slowed down for new girls (editorial) at my agency & others, plus I hear the summer can be really slow in NY.

Im in Miami right now testing, and will be seeing agents & working on a "Miami" book. You cant be lazy and just sit around waiting for your booker to make everything happen for you.
